Indeed. Ha, watching him find  the Nazi radio propagandist initiating sabotage and such!

I liked Jeremy Brett also, s a close second to Basil.

I was trying to watch something fun on Netflix earlier today and I kept drawing blanks.  Finally I came to a show called Sherlock (as in Holmes) and I pressed the play button.  I'm very glad I did because it is a real joy to watch.  I'm kind of a Sherlock Holmes purist and I have put off watching this series for a couple of years, but not now.  Binge watching, here I come.

It's all modern Sherlock Holmes and was filmed in London itself so there is a lot of flavor in both dialogue and location.  I like how they made the modern Sherlock behave in much the same way as the old one.  Benedict Cumberbatch plays Holmes and he does a great job and is even a bit funnier than past Sherlocks.  I enjoy how the producers film him when he thinks, by this I mean that you see words appear on items when he is observing them.  At least they did in this first episode called A Study in Pink.

Basil will always be the ultimate Sherlock but Benedict is a very close second. And the Cumberbatch series is excellent. Now who was the best Watson?  My vote, Jude Law

I love Jude Law as Watson, but there's also a special place in my heart for the adorable Martin Freeman. I think the last season went to crap though...

The TV series House was thinly coded Holmes adaptation, I read somewhere.  A house is . . . a Holmes . . . &c.

Never saw it but am told that --

I haven't seen that one yet. I don't really have an all-time favorite movie. A few that are near and dear to me that I can pull out of my head are: Ever After, A Knights Tale, Love Actually and the Boondock Saints.

Absolutely! Anyone interested in the older original Basil Rathbone Sherlock Homes movies should get The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection on DVD or Blu-Ray. This is the restored and remastered version by the UCLA Film and Television Archive. This restored collection of the original 14 films is outstanding.

Perhaps someone in 'the know' can move this to the Movie & TV thread.  Just a suggestion.

Carry on...and CHEERS!  :D
