Dear Pat,
Get plenty of exercise and fresh air outdoors. Watch your diet. You will lose some of that fat you don’t mention. Read widely so you become interesting. Never draw a boy on the side, at least not until you’re older. Become more assertive and confident.
Merry Christmas

Care to help Patience out?  There are several ways to win 10 points by coming up with the correct advise.  (You can win up to a total of 30 points.)

Dear PATIENCE, as they say-- Patience is a virtue.
This means that it is a good quality to be able to tolerate something that takes a long time. You are only 16 years old, there is plenty of time for you to be asked out on dates with fine young men. Young fellows are often shy and lack self-confidence. It is easy for boys to talk to LOUD and FORWARD girls.
It is OK if you want to say something to a specific fellow. You don’t have to draw him to the side. If there is a break of silence in a crowd, just say something to this fellow. Stop being anxious. Work on your skills to be a well read and interesting person.

I bet Piqua was showing her girls the Black Bottom

"The dance originated in New Orleans in the first decade of the 20th century. The jazz pianist and composer Jelly Roll Morton, wrote the tune "Black Bottom Stomp", its title referring to the Black Bottom area of Detroit. "The Original Black Bottom Dance" was printed in 1919. "

Thank you, Miss Mildred Melrose and @TigerLily for the entertainment. ;)

Not a good idea to be drawing people away from a group who is having a conversation. Instead, join the crowd and be a part of the group!

1. The boys possibly consider Patience as being too young to take out.
2. At the age of 16, Patience is young enough not to have to worry about dates, etc.
3. The boy might be leaving a group to talk to a girl and not because she drew him away. (?)

FISH: 10 points  (For her remark on Patience being a young 16 year old.)

Dear Hope,
You don’t say how young you are. 18? 13? Maybe you are too young for him. If you are of compatible age, perhaps you should be having conversations with other young men. That may attract his attention, or perhaps better, help you find someone else.
Merry Christmas
