I am having a hell of a day but, here's how it goes...
Pete Sears and I were talking on the phone. He was pretty down and a bit scattered... Somebody had just gone through his garage and stole a bunch of his road cases. All of them were given to him by Jerry Garcia. They were Jerry's gear cases. Painted with Jerry's identifiers and stage location stuff on it. This is after Jerry died, and it wasn't just for the value that he was so upset, Jerry gave him that stuff personally. It was a memento from a friend...
Pete had said there was nothing of real value inside the cases as everything gets taken out, reconditioned and cleaned.
I do like repeating the story because, out of the blue someday, maybe somebody will be selling a bunch of road cases and they will turn out to be the ones that were stolen...
