I dig the octagon tanks - super space efficient.

I wonder how one of these would do?

When I had a tank as a kid they were super hardy in sometimes not so clean water conditions, typical eel , right?
I remember seeing eels in the aquarium store growing up. Never had one though. Now, I think one would be vetoed by the wife...too much like a snake 8) I wish we had a fish/aquarium store nearby but like many other specialty stores, the big chain stores have thinned the competition and many have disappeared. Now, we have PetSmart and Walmart with fish. PetSmart has a fairly nice selection but not as many and as varied as the aquarium stores used to have.

These little guys are kinda cute, not really that snakey, but as in most things - happy wife = long life... ;)

I know what you mean on the big boxes taking over, but I also remember when Petsmart was new to the scene in the late 80s. Oh how it has changed since then, and not for the better. The stores tend to smell like a poorly cleaned dog grooming salon, which some of them indeed are. Clueless teen help, prices that are no bargain these days, messy aisles and spotty inventory. I haven't been in a Petco lately, perhaps they're better. I am told Wal Mart's fish have a less than 50/50 survival rate.

When we had the floors redone recently, the fish tank had to be emptied and moved. The one fish we currently have went to a temporary holding tank. It was a good time to update the tank.

Photos below. One photo also shows the tank on the new floor. Originally, the tank stand and top was white but I repainted it black.

At the moment, there is only 1 fish, an algae eater that is probably 15 years old.
Nice looking setup, Max.

Whenever I bought Walmart fish they didn't seem to do so well. One of my all time favorites was a now illegal Jack Dempsey! This guy was not a community orientated fella. I used to offer him worms from the back yard and he'd be in his glory. Fun fish to watch and he got big, lived a long time.

A tank of piranhas. They are kind of cute actually once you get to know them.

I love aquariums.  I've tried on 3 separate occasions in my lifetime to keep one.  They all failed.  One because I didn't know what I was doing.  Another because I got instruction, overthought and over analyzed it.  The third because I am apparently the death bringer.  I gave up.

They, fish actually don't mind when you tap on the glass. It's not like you're going to interrupt them or one of them is going to recognize you from a party a few years back and scream out "Rick, holy shit! where the fuck you been keeping yourself dude!?"  Tried to explain that to my dentist but he'd have none of it.

BTW I'm not a, Rick. Rick's are bonkers.

This looks great.  Do you give them darkness at night?  Congrats on the old timer!  It is lucky to have you!

I had an aquarium in grade school. Some fish mysteriously disappeared, and I soon learned that my tank was full of cannibals.
