I’ve been going to Vegas since 2000, the tail end of the coin era. The smell fo coins is an odd smell, but it reminds me of Vegas. I used to collect the coin buckets and bring them home. I used to love plopping a bucket full of coins into a hopper to get them changed up or taking the bucket to the cage! Bellagio used to give away very elegant gloves you could wear so your hands didn’t get dirty.

Because of the jet lag and my extreme excitement my first few days in vegas would start at around 3am - this is the time they empty all the machines of bills and the quietest time in the casino. I love that time, it’s and i can wander around with no crowds.

I’d always ring home about 4 am - midday at home. We always stay downtown I knew exactly where all the webcams and traffic cams were downtown, and I would often ring hom tell them which cam to bring up, get off the line, go wave for 5 minutes then ring them back!

Not been for a few years, I miss downtown!

+1 - you had a coin bucket thing too I see, so quaint and safe, hard to lose your shirt on nickel slots or even the quarter ones. :)

Once I retire I'll be able to go to some of the places I've heard about where odd things happen. That'd be fun.

Long as you stay out of the gubmint facilities, yes. I think Gilliland's UFO ranch would be must see, and I'm sure you have your own bucket list, care to share a few?

@DynamoHum , YES! Filling up those buckets would be so exciting. I would cash in my coins and take my cash to the craps table.  So many "cowboys" were superstitious at the crap's table. As I laid my cash down for change at the craps table some players would pick up their chips. They were not going to play at a table with a female at the table. Let alone a redheaded female. As I would roll the dice and make my point, players would come back to the table. The best place to play craps was at Binion's Gambling Hall. However, you better know the odds on a win.

Did you ever go across the pedestrian bridge over to Main Street Station? They have a Hall Of Fame for record craps sessions all along the walls of the bridge ... one guy went for like 200 odd rolls!

I never managed to master craps, my dyscalculia kills me with it.

I did win a number of poker tourneys at Billions, they used to give out T-shirts that said you won a tourney there! The coffee shop at Binions was fabulous!
Give pees a chance.

Was this a long time ago when they would leave?
I haven't heard of Binion's. My parents then and my mother now don't go to the large casinos on the strip. They like the smaller ones. The latest thing I've heard is that the big casinos now are charging a pretty penny for parking, where before it was free. I wonder if that will affect them negatively.

Edit, not other, MOTHER

She was, back in the '80s and into the early '00s the very best. She did her show from Seattle with her hubby Paul running the board.

Now it's like she was a Mandela effect, finding anything on her is near impossible, albeit youtube has some few left up:

@26 horses  thanks this is up next for me. the show I am listening to now is coming to a close.

It is a squishy list. The UFO ranch would be a blast. I'm not terribly fond of traveling, and some of what I find interesting is on the east coast. I was raised back there and for goodness sake knew nothing! Anyway, I am interested in Lizzie Borden house, and I fully fault Spooky Tim for that.  ;D  Gettysburg. West coasty perhaps a visit to Mt Shasta would be fun.

http://www.binions.com/

Gambling hall, I like the sound of that. Next time I'm visiting my mom I'll ask her if we will stop at any gambling halls.   ;D ;D

@anniem , I have not been to Vegas for a few years.  Binion's was the place for cowboys and cowgirls. It is located on Fremont Street. I still play craps in Atlantic City NJ. The young players do not understand how to play the psych of this game, let alone the odds. Females are no longer considered bad luck at the tables. A good craps player studies the table before cashing in for chips. I look for a shooter who is wearing diamond rings. Actually I am look for a Tony Soprano that is throwing the dice. Will not play with someone who is using their shoe money.

I was alive and well when the casinos arrived in Atlantic City, but never visited them. We'd go further south to the beach. As a kid my parents had a friend who had a house in Bay Head, I have such lovely memories of that place.
You must do well at the craps tables, you sound as if you know your stuff.
Tony Soprano, that brings up a perfect image of what you are talking about. Did you watch it? When I was around 15 we had a nutty teacher for Italian in HS. He wanted to have lunch with a lady in Little Italy in NY so he created a "field trip" and took the whole class. When the bus arrived he opened the door and said "Be back at 4. Have an Italian lunch" and let us all go completely unsupervised. I wandered around the whole day and I recall seeing some Tony Sopranos hanging around some doorways. None of us had enough money to buy a restaurant lunch, but we had a good time site seeing.

Great choices, maybe the Amittyville House too?

Or where the Exorcist was filmed?
