I heard Pete Rose tell of the time he first encountered Bob Gibson.  Pete's rookie year, so I think 1963, he's playing 2b.  Gibson comes up and promptly doubles.

Pete Rose is excited to meet Bob Gibson, runs over to second base and says ''whatjuh hit, Gibby?''.  Gibson ignores him and takes his lead.  Again Pete says ''hey Gibby, what was it?''.  Gibson again ignores him.  After the inning was over Pete asks of one the veterans, and they tell him Gibson doesn't talk to the opposition during the game.

Next day Pete's taking his swings during BP and Bob Gibson walks by.  ''It was a slider, rook'.

And Pete LaCock's dad was???

Peter Marshall, Hollywood Squares. (I just googled, Peter Marshall is still alive!)  I remember when he said that on a Hollywood Squares episode in the 1970s.

What did I do yesterday?  This morning? Where am I?

🙄
Eh, nevermind...

One of my earliest baseball memories, some grownup gave me their copy of Sport Magazine when they were finished with it.  One of the articles was an interview with Bob Gibson.

The only part I remember was him being torked off because some sportswriter had made up a godawful quote and attributed it to him.  Asked about his pitching style the quote was ''ah jus' rear back an' humm dat pea''.  Haha, no wonder these guys hate sportswriters.  As if he was some dumb hick from the rural south, which he most surely was not.

Great, now go find @sean92008 he's wondered off again....
There was a little girl,
            Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
            When she was good,
            She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

I don't remember this guy, and I remember people who've played 14 innings for the Padres back in 2006...

A murderous baseball pitcher commits suicide. Charles Haeger. This is the fourth ex-Dodger to die within the week.

There has never been a greater direct hit on any of these New Year prediction shows ever.
I am the psychic GOD Art Bell wished for every year.

😈

I just read that he was still blaming those metal guitar picks for the throat cancer...  I wonder if he was trying to set the stage for some sort of a lawsuit...
