Post by: Camazotz Automat on June 28, 2021, 10:54:13 AM

Comedian Jimmie Walker.

He just turned 74.

I thought I had heard of his demise?

He’s now lived long enough to achieve the hallowed mission of doing Medicare commercials.  Dy-no-mite.

I would have failed that test, too!

In my case, I think my brain switched Brooks and Carl Reiner, since they were such longtime friends.

I know Brooks is alive because about every month he trends on twitter without explanation and you have a bunch of people saying "Don't scare me like that Twitter!!"

Mine is John Astin, I was certain he passed away years ago. I liked his guest role on a favorite show of mine Night Court, did the Riddler a couple of times in the old Batman series and of course Gomez Addams in the Addams family. That might have got in my head when Raul Julia (who played Gomez in the early 90s movies of Addams Family) died I might have just place Astin in that memory as well. I was really surprised and happy he's still with us.

Great thread.  Now, another brain exercise and Google-hole of people I think are dead.

I swear there's been some recent incidents but I'm rather occupied now and can't remember them at the moment.

@sean92008

Thanks.

When I saw the same advertisement IO referenced, I found the Jimmie JJ Walker revelation disturbing - a classic "someone walking over my future grave" moment. I decided it  was time to document some of these freakish memory bubbles and also the reasonable assumptions, and expose them to public collapse.

I am overly proud of the title. I might just get intoxicated at an upcoming gathering and  gently (obtusely) steer the conversation toward Barbara Eden/7 Faces of Dr. Lao/I Dream of Genie.

When someone says, "I thought Barbara Eden was dead?", I will spring into action.

"Wrong! You're DEAD WRONG!!!" Slapping my hand down on a table. "Get it?!"

What a lunatic  jackass.

But still, I would be having "Good Times," - to borrow  from the still breathing JJ's show.

@PB
I am doing everything in my power to not say "motel coil."

(Failed. I have no willpower.)

@Zetaspeak
Addendum: John Astin is a Master Trickster and national treasure. Such excellent voice command/control in everything he worked on.

MeTV recently added The Addams Family to their lineup, so I’ve been enjoying Mr. Astin on a nightly basis.  Cozi has The Munsters soon after and it’s a delight to then enjoy the affable Fred Gwynne, the amusing Al Lewis, and the stunning Yvonne De Carlo.  Either Marilyn isn’t too shabby, either.

In my head he's tied up with Marty Ingles (co-star on I'm Dicken's, He's Fensger), so when Marty Ingles died I kept thinking John Astin had.

I usually find out these things when very old people do die after they'd been out of the public eye for a long time.  Like when Mike Gravel just died, I was surprised to realize he hadn't years earlier.

I keep thinking Peter Falk died, but I see him posting here all the time.  Keep running in a serpentine manner and you'll keep dodging those bullets.

Now "green" is such a big deal. Greenies need to put their money where their mouths are and color themselves GREEN for the cause. LIKE THEY DID IN THE 60S!

He’s faded from my view, since he’s gone from radio, at least in my area. Clyde Lewis can no longer be found on the radio dial in my area, either.  He’s lost a number of radio stations.  I still check his podcast on occasion, but his shows are really hit and miss.  He can have some interesting paranormal shows but his political/ conspiracy shows can be a mess.

Bruce Williams did something like that.  Went to a podcast model. Sadly, he quit because the podcast didn't generate enough income to keep a staff.  Later after he died, his family didn't put his shows on YouTube and the website was allowed to expire last year, I think.  I would go back and listen to his last show a few times.

I remember seeing a background story on him. He's a cynic about aliens/paranormal and the fans were shocked. I think he's learned about the subjects so he can speak better on them.  It's been ages since I saw it. I may be a little off...
@sean92008 no you are not OFF. He would give lectures for the "Committee for Skeptical Inquiry."

@KSM sorry. I was trying to cheer you up.
I like your avatar. A nice tribute to Lizzie Borden during the first DAYS of AUGUST.

In a way, he's like an actor who was in a movie about orangutans lecturing congress about zoo conditions in Congo... Except he studied 😁

I hope he does a video before the band plays..

"I'm Charlie Watts. Me and Wyman are starting our own band and we're leaving those losers to take your hard earned concert ticket money.  Come watch our new band, The Realing Stones, at a venue near you..."

I thought Phil Esposito was dead.

His younger brother, Tony, just died.  I thought older brother already passed.

A name that I hadn't thought about in many, many years... Geri Jewell.

When I saw the name, I just presumed that she was dead because of her condition and presumed shorter life span.

Polly Holliday - "Flo" from ALICE.

I remember when she died. It wasn't too long after I saw her in a television commercial (post ALICE) for some product. A few years later, she was gone.

But she isn't gone. She is 84.

For me, this one is just as odd as the Jimmie Walker Incident. Maybe more so.

"You may not have known her by her real name, but everyone knew the character she portrayed."

(Cue ALICE/KMG48 clip)

Wow! I swear he died in a plane crash with his wife who's some pastor now... Err... then.

I see the confusion now, his son was shot after killing his mother, Ely's wife.

I conflated that with Joe Lara, another Tarzan, who did die in a plane crash with his wife.

Lindsay Wagner

Age 72

I just saw her on Night Gallery in a bit part as a nurse.  I wasn't sure if she was still walkin & talkin.

I had a severe bionic crush on her back in those bionic years.

Recall the name, don't remember the roles. Dave McFadden's brother? (Reuben from Partridge Family?)

And one of the two agents in The Man from U.N.C.L.E, so at least two major TV roles

I would think that David is best known for (Like PB said) having played Illya Kuryakin on the original The Man from U.N.C.L.E.  That show ran for four seasons and I watched it religiously but I can't recall any of the episodes.  He also had a starring role in the movie The Great Escape, and appeared on the original Outer Limits, Night Gallery and The Six Million Dollar Man.

I seem to recall that he was a teen heartthrob for awhile.  The girls went crazy for him, like they did with The Beatles.

random related:

I'm pretty sure, as a clueless kid,  after Girl from U.N.C.L.E. was airing, at some point, I referred to it as
A.U.N.T. from U.N.C.L.E.

I clearly recall a beautiful brunette being water boarded in a swimming pool.

She remained resolute.

They had some pretty cool U.N.C.L.E. instruments of death produced for the kids to play with.  Ones which would immediately label the neighborhood kids as domestic terrorists if they were seen with them today.
