Eureka! Selectric! Getting caught up on my beloved General Hospitals today. 44 seconds into this clip notice what is front and center. While everything around it is being smashed into unrecognizable pieces the Selectric remains pristine. They know how to treat a star

It is a testament to her acting abilities and to the scriptwriters' skills that I completely loathed her.

The resignation on Arthur's face as he again witnesses the brick wall that she is - "OK. Let's cut to the chase. Where do I get my damned drugs now?"

That IBM sits there like a mute Aztec idol or symbolic tombstone.  Awesomeness.

Watching some Ray Bradbury Theater today while painting and I note Ray's Selectric II on his desk at the beginning of each episode.

Watched a news segment on  CBS Sunday Morning about MTV turning 40 years old.  When they spoke about MTV's news show, the giant Selectric spherical typing element filled the screen.

At the thrift store, I saw no Selectrics, but two IBM wheelwriters.

Any typewriter sighting is a good typewriter sighting.

Ha!  I watched Colombo’s “Etude in Black” last night.  Typing can implicate the guilty!

“I mean, everyone knows – or knew in the 1970s – that placing a previously typed note into a typewriter will cause misalignment problems. And this turns out to be the case at the end because, of course, Columbo notices!”

This is Robert Heinlein's typewriter, with a noise dampening case. His wife called it the "baby coffin."

I don't know what kind of typewriter it is, but this is a great photo of ZOTZ! author Walter Karig at work.

(And if that cat is not heavily participating in the writing process, I'm a monkey's uncle.)

I appreciate typewriters.  I find the mechanics of the older machines fascinating.  However I cannot type in the traditional sense.  I am strictly 'hunt & peck.'  Now, does it lessen my credibility if I give an opinion on a particular typewriter?  That's probably a strange and unnecessary question but in a sense it's like admiring a Lamborghini but I can't drive a stick shift.

I visit thrift stores and antique shops quite often and see many typewriters that look amazing.  I am tempted to purchase one just for the aesthetic.

How did you find the photo of the supposed typewriter of Mr.Heinlein?
If i may be so bold to enquire:
1)Are you an perusor of Mr.Heinlein's ouvre?
2)Do you own any of his series of 'Jouvenile'novlettes or novels?
{ie:double star,have space-suit,will travel,etc.}
I'm interested in his work.

At the risk of twining too Mark Twainian, I would categorically have to state: "When it comes to material, it doesn't matter how you type, but what you type."

Or you can just as well write something out longhand on a Blue Horse pencil tablet and have a mysterious assistant type it up.

Just be prepared to be asked - by one of the several hundred visitors to this topic - what brand and or model of machine was utilized in the rendering of said impacts. ;)

As far as purchasing a typewriter for ambience, IMO you can not go wrong. And the more obscure the equipment, the better.

An extreme decor example: a Braille typewriter for "looks" would be a superior visual pun.

(Note to self: hunt down an antique Brailler. And maybe a Blue Horse pencil tablet or two.)

Hell low, Halo, Bellz.

Is that you, Lou?
Long time no   cipher.

If it were discovered a  former member of the RH Society sent me that photo, I would be unable to identify her in a line up, but May Bee lying down and my agent would deny he had served as drunken carrier Pig Eon.

I previously learned about the muffled "undertaker business" typewriter from skimming Vol 2 of William Patterson's Heinlein biography.  Prior pigeon, I  had not seen such a clear picture of the sentinel ant head.

I was grateful to view the beast.

I've read a few of Heinlein's works.

Something of his might make it onto my '21 list, or maybe both Patterson volumes will. What little I skimmed of Vol 2 was good. But my dance card  of death is rapidly filling to capacity.

(I just realized I will die in '42. Thank you, ever hovering Premonition Bitch goddess. Now, how about those lotto numbers? Or whether or not I should invest in graphene?)

"Katzenjammer Typography."

Hahaha.

Captain Karig would approve.
