Rock and Roll and the Devil
« on: November 15, 2018, 09:40:46 PM »
I was playing random youtube videos mostly classic rock like Moody Blues, Procol Harum, Cream and such and I get this recommendation for a video from this Christian channel about Queen, Freddie Mercury and the Devil.  I have no idea why I was recommended this because I don't watch that sort of thing on youtube usually. The narrator sounds completely insane but makes a couple interesting points.  I do think the lyrics and quotes are taken out of context and I ultimately thumbed-down the video.  Then I saw where the same channel had posted a similar video on The Beach Boys.  LOL, the freaking Beach Boys.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to start a thread about rock and roll and the Devil so post your Satanic songs, rumored Satanic songs and your opinions.  Frankly I think most of it is bs but I'm open-minded.

'Allo!
With you yet am i.
Begging to differ.
From my own researches...
Mebbe the blues...which make up about one-fifth of rock.
Can you say,"Robert Johnson",boys & girls??
Racism and gospel in 'Murkka met with Richard Penniman...
He took gospel and dexedrine, and made up an demented sound.
It was not rock.
Rock was from hill-billy music that had an back beat, you can't loose it.
The Everly Brothers.(&:Carl Perkins,Jerry Lee Lewis..)
(Ask John Lennon.)
They were raised on grace note gospel harmony in the mountains.
Possibly scots.
Listen to their sound.
Elvis Presley should have that harmonic sound.
Rock was speeded-up country & gospel.
Not devil-ish.
All that bru-ha-ha came from 'Holly-Wierd'.
And Kenneth Anger's mileu in the city there.
When he cosied up to the rolling stones.
management conspired in swinging london to create an dyad of good vs.evil with the wholesome guy groups uppa crusties aka sloane rangers and titled trash,vs.evil docker bastids like some bands The Who,for example.
Image was all.
The stones were cast as anti-beatles.
Anger taught them how to use the theatrical holly-wierd feel.
I was at altamont.
The film is not an documentary,by the way.
You can fill in the rest...

Hmm, the Freddy video was "recommended" for me as well. I never watch any of the suggested videos so instead I'll do a completely different video search for something like how to make delicious donuts or something like that ;D Some of them are pretty good btw.

As a child of 11 years of Sunday school (Baptist) and off and on teen Christian groups that warned against such things like the 'devil" and rock n roll.. It kind of ruined some music/songs for me because I to this day dissect all the lyrics and it always pissed me off when a cool riff like AC/DC's highway to hell and hundreds of others bands songs being sullied by such things as eeeeevil 8). I once auditioned for a working metal cover band (vocalist) they really wanted me but were pissed that I refused to sing highway to hell and even more perplexed when I told them why. I think I suggested an ac dc song called Walk All Over You in its place, this delighted them and I joined. Hehehe

Sooo many timeless songs from all genres over the decades that stay on the enoqueous side of things, so I prefer them. I'll take care of my spiritual health on my own without any of Freddy's advice that I found laughable even as a child. Whatta shame.  LMFAO, the beach boys???

A good healthy Christian upbringing can do wonders. <-- shall I be smited for that?

Editing to say great thread, 21.

Glad to see your post. And laughed at Sloane Rangers comment. And, yes, about Hollywood though also one must also admit that in some traditions, with great voices, that instruments weren't allowed in various churches so the voice became the "instrument" to great effect. (Some even today.) Also the "africanized" element that was seen in drumming and, actually, and somewhat interestingly, in the banjo.
