That possum reminded me of coming home one night after work.  There was a possum sitting in the road and cars were driving over it (not on it) so I went to take a look.  It had been hit by a car because its nose was injured.  It was stunned and afraid, so I went and got a shovel and swooped it up and put it under a grape plant.  I checked back after an hour and it was still sitting there, along with a cat.  I looked again in the morning and it was gone.

That was nice of you. It had a cat friend!

The possum was probably picking ticks off the cat.

Can cats and possums be friends or was the cat taking advantage of the possum’s bad day?
There was a little girl,
            Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
            When she was good,
            She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

When I checked on the possum after an hour or so, it was sitting up under the grape plant and there was a neighborhood cat sitting right next to it.  The cat did look at the possum as it sat there but the possum didn't give the cat much notice.  I noticed that the possum was blowing out it's nostrils, to clear the passages in order to breath better.  It's nose was definitely hit by a car.  It seems like the cat found the possum interesting, and did take advantage of the possum's immobility to sit by it and observe it.  It certainly seemed like the two of them were at ease with each other.  I like to think that the two of them were friends, at least for that moment in time.

An original crate label of mine, and very worn out.  At least it has some playing cards that show a full house.
