Title: A Desert Island Question
Post by: Nucky Nolan on April 14, 2019, 04:22:27 PM
Let's say that you're stranded on a desert island. Somehow, it has power.  :D You can pick a "best of" or "greatest hits" CD of ten bands or singers with twenty songs on each. Who would you choose?

My Choices:
.Beatles
.Rolling Stones
.Depeche Mode
.U2
.Judas Priest
.Queen
.Lynyrd Skynyrd
.ZZ Top
.Killers
.The Police

@Nucky Nolan

BBC had a great show with this subject where they would ask various people from all walks of life, academia, or fame this question. I expand to say full repertoire, not just single albums.

Karl Ritcher's set of Bach and Hayden
Iron Maidens catalog
Skynyrd
Hank Williams: Sr and Jr
Furtwängler's entire stuff
the Art Bell bumper music
Willie Nelson
Art Bell shows
Pantera
D.A.C.
Judas Priest
Megadeth

I could not stick to 10.

The Eagles
The Allman Brothers
The Byrds
Rolling Stones
Miles Davis
Dave Brubeck
Rod Stewart
Steely Dan
Otmar Liebert
Jerry Jeff Walker

---not an easy choice---

(subject to change)

@albrecht: That's quite a variety! It's like you wore a blindfold in a used record store and picked albums at random.

I have one of those ME things for you. I heard that it's really just "Eagles" without the "the", which is a good band too.

@Nucky Nolan   I have variety of musical interests but, for whatever reason, don't find many new ones. I also note that there is a decent connection between metal and 'classical' in terms of chord progressions, etc. I've heard some "study" that people lose ability/interest for new genres, or even players/bands, at a certain age? Idk if true but seems to be if you consider how radio is formatted or sales. But the internet or younger generation who stream stuff might be changing this? But even those streaming sites tend to pigeon-hole you into a genre or "like" bands? There also is the problem of attention span: longer "classical" stuff, operas, and even "concept albums" rightfully take time to listen, not short clips, to really appreciate.

Of course, somebody would pick the Groove Injectors. Could you *be* more predictable?

It's likely all of the above, but I'm still into new alternative rock. The biggest change is that even many younger people dislike their generation's music, which is good news for older acts who need money to replace their hips.

I see what you mean about that cover. I'd like to take *her* to a desert island after I find a time machine, of course.

That's almost the playlist of our local classic rock station. They started playing songs from that new group, Metallica.

This is a desert island, not Club Med.  ;) Please *don't* get started on those blowup dolls!

It's a beautiful day in *this* neighborhood, and life *was* like a box of chocolates. We listened to *Eagles* before we watched "Sex *And* The City".

That's one way to look at it. I see it as evidence of a parallel universe.

No worries. I wouldn't even know where the air valve is located.

I get that. I had the same worry before my first time back in high school.

Not allowed to bring them. Nucky put the hammer down so I'm just gathering my audio files and getting on the boat. Or the plane.. whatever.

Let's forget the boat. Let's find a time machine and go back to a year before 2019 CW (Clown World).
