My favorite Lear interview was by a short-lived C2C rent-a-host who played Lear like a trout, basically made him look foolish.  I don't remember his name, but he never did another C2C show.

I think the host was David Rubin.  Not entirely sure though.

Yes, that's the name. I'd love to hear that show again, but not enough to cough up "just fifteen cents a day."

Thanks Shay.

Didn't Lear have a rocket car parked in his front yard and somebody else who was a guest on Coast happened to go by the house and stopped by to say hi and talk about the car... Does that ring any bells for anybody?

By the way, one of the fun things about living in Southern Nevada is the fact that you come across some pretty incredible people all over town.
Eh, nevermind...

Lazar had a jet powered Honda, so maybe Lear saw it and stopped to talk .

RIP John Lear
Coast to Coast AM is saddened to share the news that legendary aviator, UFO researcher, and longtime guest of the program, John Lear, has passed away at the age of 79. The son of famed Learjet inventor William Lear, he grew up surrounded by aircraft and pilots. In 1966, at the age of 23, Lear was the lead aviator on a record-breaking flight around the world. For a short period, Lear also flew missions for the CIA’s infamous "Air America" operation during the Vietnam War. He was licensed to pilot almost anything that flew and achieved thousands of hours as pilot-in-command.

He was best known by C2C listeners for his stories and revelations about UFOs and aliens. He appeared with George Knapp, George Noory, and Art Bell numerous times to reveal information about apparent government cooperation with alien races and was one of the original researchers into the strange goings-on at Area 51 as well as other secret locations, using what he claimed was official insider information to support his assertions.

In 1987, he released a statement that the U.S. Government had entered into a secret agreement with aliens and was promoting the gradual public release of this information through popular media. He apparently became aware of a supposed ET presence on Earth and their deals with officialdom through his contact with UFO researcher Paul Bennewitz in the 1980s. From his extensive contact with Bennewitz, he learned of the claimed existence of an underground base near Dulce, New Mexico and actively promoted the story, which has become a staple of UFO lore ever since.

On March 22, 1989, Lear, along with Bob Lazar and screenwriter Gene Huff, famously drove his RV to a remote location on Nevada's highway 395 where it was said that UFOs could be observed every Wednesday night. This was one of the first expeditions to what was later learned to be Area 51. That evening, they saw a light dancing in the distance and Lear observed what he said was a disc-shaped craft through his telescope. Two months later, Lazar began appearing in interviews with George Knapp on Las Vegas’ KLAS TV as a secret government source.

In a now-legendary C2C appearance in November of 2003 with Art Bell, Lear shared what he called the 'Disclosure Briefing.' The lengthy dissertation outlined what he saw as the secret history of UFOs, deals with aliens for technology in exchange for abduction "rights," and how political issues such as the Cold War and Vietnam were actually promoted to draw attention away from the ET presence. Lear revisited the revelatory piece on subsequent episodes and frequently joined Knapp, Lazar, and Huff on memorable programs wherein the group reflected on their role in the Area 51 saga.

Lear will be fondly remembered by countless Coast listeners who were captivated by his riveting appearances on the program as well as the UFO research community, which celebrates his significant contributions to the field, his daring declarations about the nature of a government cover-up, and the many friendships he made with an array of investigators over the years. Lear is survived by two daughters and his former wife, Marcelle Tagand Lear.

In the early 1970s, Lear divorced his wife and she then married actor Adam West (TV's Batman)

”In remembrance of Lear, Dave Norway will again be skipping out early from Friday’s Coast to Coast and slamming on some moldy, old recording of Mr. Norway with Lear.  We are sure Coast to Coast listeners will appreciate this more than Mr. Norway playing some dopey recording of him reciting Edgar Alan Poe or a worn-out, lame, fake recording of some old biddy beating a guy with an umbrella.”

How is George Knapp still employed as a journalist by a legitimate TV news operation? He's literally the most gullible adult on this planet.

Oh good a Mr. Lobo appearance, Noory will ask the exact same questions he's asked Mr. Lobo in each of his previous appearances. A rubber duck on a string will drop from my ceiling if the secret word 'Billy Mumy' comes out of either of their mouths.

I still think Noory being chosen to be Art Bell's successor might be a very long April Fools joke, it's certainly a joke.

Noory for some reason is telling Mr. Lobo about the greatest decision he ever made in his career - when Premiere Radio offered Noory the job they told him he'd have 3 weeks vacation a year, Noory proudly told Mr. Lobo he's never taken a vacation, and his greatest decision was to make it his rule that Coast would do live shows on holidays, because the people need him. Noory loves to congratulate himself on what a swell guy he is. He also made the point to Mr. Lobo that Coast's guest hosts do the holiday shows sometimes because Noory wants them to get paid. What a hero. What any of this has to do with Mr. Lobo is unknown. Of course Mr. Lobo felt obligated to give Noory what he craved, ass kissing.

The real reason he doesn't take vacations and does holiday shows is he has no life or interests of his own even though he has children and grandchildren. He also knows he sucks and worries the suits at Premiere would one day realize it so he does everything he can to prove some kind of worth to them -  he's affordable, loyal and dependable.
