One of my favorite baseball years was 1981. The majors went on strike, so the Braves sent their major league broadcast crew to televise the Richmond Braves International League games. It was fun to see games from Columbus, Toledo, Norfolk, Rochester, etc.
I recall seeing a minor league game as a kid. It was quite the wild affair. Saw a batter take a swing at a fast ball and after hearing a loud crack, the catcher leapt back and started to look for a foul ball to catch. But the ball never came down. In fact, it wasn't to be seen anywhere. The catcher, the ump and even the batter were all wandering around looking for it. Then the batter started to laugh and he reached inside his shirt and pulled the ball out. Also, the catcher for one of the teams would shout out encouragement to his pitcher in between pitches. "All right now, over the plate, right here, atta boy! Hubba Hubba!" The hitters and the ump didn't even care, they just let him shout away. I believe that was the first time I ever heard the expression Hubba Hubba.
