Art Bell realized that personal readings are boring to the general audience and only important to the caller, so he never allowed that on his shows.

May be a question of semantics, but I'm sure I remember Bell having guests who did "readings" for callers. He certainly had the "will I find a job" and "will my love life improve" type readings, if not those seeking contact with the dead.

Thats not what i remember  - Art would not allow that and told callers to only ask general questions of psychics like Gordon Michael Scallion for example about future wars etc.

You might be right, or maybe he evolved to that position after seeing how dull the personal readings were when allowed them early on.

''Psychics''?  Those were nights I listened to the first hour and turned it off and went to bed before they came on.

I think I've told this story before, but when I worked in Va in 80-81, a local talk radio host promoted for a week or so he was going to have a well known psychic on his show. When the psychic did the show, the lines were full and the calls continuous.  I can't remember how long the guest was on for, but eventually the host fessed up the guy was nothing more than a cold reader.   Those locals were pissed, but the station got a lot of publicity.

The annual ''predictions'' show combined the worst elements of Coast - ''predictions'' and callers. 

And two days of it (''caller, please turn your radio off'', ''are you on a cell phone?'', ''no predictions about the death of the president'', ''these have to be predictions, not guesses''.  Repeat.)

... and this continued on, this is how these frauds work, just go down a list, wait until one hits and then work from there but this time it didn't work, nothing she pulled out of her ass matched up with the caller's father, of course neither her nor Noory were the least bit embarrassed. Noory covered for her, cut the caller and moved along.

U7 Radio just played a July 2004 show where he had a psychic line.  He had to dump an assassination prediction AND he explained why.
