Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton make a port call deep into the Black Sea. Long way from home. I guess the idea is to poke the Bear in the eye but she would have a tough time defending herself if it got ugly.

Thanks for posting this Walks. I had heard of this incident, but never in the detail presented here. I remember ready about about British subs being damaged in training exercises.

Last of the Zumwalt class - there was supposed to 32 of them but this will be the 3rd and last.

Well the USS Connecticut twitter post was not B.S.:
https://news.usni.org/2021/10/07/breaking-attack-submarine-uss-connecticut-suffers-underwater-in-pacific
This is extra bad as she is a Seawolf Class boat. The Navy only has three of them - with one being an odd duck and configured underwater special ops [USS Jimmy Carter. The other two USS Seawolf and the Connecticut carry a huge number of anti-ship Tomahawk missles. THe other Navy attack subs are Virginia class and carry a significantly smaller amount of Tomahawks.
It just got a little easier for China to invade Taiwan - depending how bad the damage was. For the Navy to announce it publicly, it must have been bad enough to where it the damage could not be hidden.
-
USS Connecticut - one of only three Sea Wolf class submarines and one of only two configured for an anti-shipping role has left San Diego. She hit "something" in the South China Sea, limped to Guam and then made it back to San Diego the other day. She looks pretty jacked up - will be interesting to see if she goes back to Bremerton or has to head back to the east coast for repairs. They newer Virginia class submarines will be buffed up to carry more anti-ship missiles as a deterrence to the Chinese but for now Sea Wolf and the mangled Connecticut are the best boats for that job.

Wrong in the first few seconds. The first combat submarine dates back to The War of the Rebellion and the CSS Huntley.
