I don't agree with this mandatory tipping bullshit in bars and restaurants.
It's a scam by restaurant owners to financially support the underpaid employees.
If I tip it's only 10%, max.
Those who brag that they tip 20% or more are naive fools being taken for a ride.

Tipping is considered a sign of bad service in Japan. Of course, they actually pay their workers... Is it still done in America that most food places pay the waiters like $4 and expect them to make up the rest with tips?

Are you serious?
Why do they tip if the service was bad. Strange.

Not quite that bad but yeah. A strange system but, in many cases, waiting tables is a side-job, entry level, student job, or a temporary thing (in theory) whereas in some other countries it is an actual job/career even and you can find the same waiters for years at a place and they really know the food, wine, location, etc.

Well tipping is a rare thing. Quality service is highly valued here. You don't really last long in the job if you are not meeting those standards. It also leads more to a "what do I do with this" reaction.

I usually tip 15%.  20% if it’s above and beyond.

First off all, doofus. Nobody's "bragging" about how much they tip. If the service is crap and the food even worse we'll send it back, not pay a thing (unless we had drinks) and leave and possibly never go back. If my wife had her way she'd tip more than 20% for great service but she's insane.  not really..    :-\

I'm hoping this thread develops into sort of a wine bar, coffeehouse, discussion site. A place with no agenda. We can hangout and discuss and meander anywhere we want.  All topics covered in any other thread or totally new thoughts and ideas. Like friends who run into each other and just catch up on anything and everything. Gossip, questions, experiences. Art, Science, the Paranormal, the Normal. Your day. Deep philosophy to giggling at the absurd. And being absurd ourselves. Grab your favorite beverage. Settle into a comfy chair and chat. About whatever

Any thoughts? Good idea? Bad idea? Stupid idea? Waddaya guys think? I'll check back later to see if there is any interest

I like this idea greatly, thank you

He was naughty today.   I was doing some drywall repairs in the house today and he got into my drywall mud.  The Mrs. had to wrangle him and give him a bath.   :D

Poor little guy tried to help you. :)

Yep, and it's completely unnatural to sit across from someone, anyone and not speak let alone being buried into their little gadgets. Flat out weird.

While we're on dinner outings what does everybody tip? We're usually at the 20% mark when things are good but it infuriates me that they all tip out at the end of the night and share the wealth. It's pure fucking socialism. We actually had to force (I think her name was Erin) to accept a cash tip handed to her under the table last night and even then she was slightly uncomfortable about it. And that in itself pisses me off that she has become so socially conditioned to dole out to others what SHE deserved and earned!

Too much?

/Rant

No. Not too much. I agree.

The puppy has been in full flower today. Bedtime can't come soon enough. :o

In other news, I very much want to try Japanese cheesecake (jiggly cake). I have Mr. FLB on board, so that bodes well.

You must be terrible in bed. (The better the dancer, the better in bed. Allegedly.)

I only have sex with dirty hookers so it doesn't really matter as long as I get what I need.

It all depends on the nature of the dysfunction, but I'm a big fan of non-defensive communication. Also being able and willing to leave if things are truly intolerable.

Of course, there always is the option of bailing in favor of a vacation elsewhere. Let 'em bicker while you sip a mai tai. 8)
