The one and only time that Art Bell responded to anything I said on Bellgab was when I brought up WKRP.

"I love that show!!!" Art said.

Reading up on Hessman, didn't realize he was the star of "Head of the Class" for 5 years! That lasted longer than KRP.  I had no memory of that title.

👍

Maybe it was the DJs' version of what Barney Miller was to cops.
Eh, nevermind...

I still pronounce his name Chiy Chiy Rod rig weez and look for opportunities to say that name.

Incredible how the show has been a part of the American experience.

Howard Hesseman

"WKRP in Cincinnati" debuted my junior year at the University of Cincinnati.  I don't know if it was by design or pure coincidence, but there was a professor at UC who was a dead ringer for the Johnny Fever character.

He became a legend because of WKRP but I do remember him also for finally making an honest woman out of Ann Romano in the final season of One Day at a Time. Not sure many remember but Head of the Class is one of my underrated 80s shows and liked him as the teacher.

I remember seeing him on Saturday Night Live, back when that show was an event (before Belushi, Akroyd, and Chevy Chase left).

Wait, Marvin?

I remember the SNL with Tim Curry talking Rocky Horror: Meat to Curry, ''You got paid!?''

Guess not, I will be dancing on Ringo Starr's urn before he's assumed room temperature.

Watch out for my piss.

I can only hope they play something supremely suck-a-licious at their memorial.  Either The Captain and Tennille’s Muskrat Love or a Starland Vocal Band selection should do.

I remember wanting to bang the Asian chick.

Yeah, I guess that guy ain't gonna sing Amazing Grace at my sendoff.  Guess it's back to the original plan.

Of course, at the wake, it'll be:

Little Chris, bring some extra broads.

I've never heard a Meat Loaf song that I can recall, other than watching him on Fridays (?) because someone I knew was playing in his band.

I'm seeing an awful amount of respect for the man on this board and elsewhere on the Internet, which leads me to think that I have really missed out on something.  But music is immortal.  Anyone here care to suggest which album of his to start with?  Bat Out of Hell, or something else?

Dude, Steinman may have put the words down on paper, but the Big Man had a near operatic voice and presentation of the music.
