That's a funny coincidence. I went to praise all you guys and Bart and KSM were tied at 483. Now Bart is ahead by one. juan beats both of you with 488. I find it interesting how close you three were in karma. Some kind of sonic resonance?

A friend of mine wanted to set up a cheap demo studio.
He had the computer and a few good mics so I told him he could probably get the rest for under $200.

I got him an Audigy Platinum 2 ZS Platinum Pro for $25
A midi usb keyboard for $60
M-Audio AV32 monitors for $75
Rock band drums (you read that right) $10 at Goodwill.

Boom! $170 and he was ready to roll.

Installed the free version of Cubase and a few of the better VSTs and he was ready to record.
Forget expensive electronic drums, the USB version of the Rock Band drums are perfectly fine triggers... plus you can find them everywhere for a few bucks.

I recorded this using his fancy new studio to show him what can be done with minimal effort.
Every few months I like to see if I can remember songs I spent way too much time learning as a kid.
Here I tried to fake my way through Summer Song after not hearing it in probably a decade.

This didn't play. Have I been banned? Already?

Here’s an even older one - recorded in 1970, released in 1971. “Smiling Faces” by Coldwater Army. It was a time of very mixed musical tastes - BS&T/Chicago, Three Dog Night, some vestiges of the California sound, and the beginnings of what would be Southern rock. There’s a bit of it all in this song. I played trombone on this record. Recorded in glorious 8-track with analog reverb (a concrete block room.)

Somehow I missed the first page. I can hear all those influences. Really good. Sounds very professional. But a personal preference. I like the bluesy ones a bit better.

In the photo. Which one is juan I wonder

With the recent collaboration between @Aquarius and @Bart Ell, we need to get this thread going again. Surely you are making music out there.
I'll kick it off again. I'm playing tenor trombone on this one. It's from 2013 recorded live at a rehearsal on a Zoom, so don't expect studio quality balance. It's the Top Shelf Orchestra featuring Steve Scarborough singing one of George Noory's favorite songs.

Very fun. I could pick out the trombone on this one. I have a secret affection for big band, swing music. Don't tell anyone

@KSM even listening on the iPad, the tonal differences of the Les Pauls came through. Very interesting.

@TigerLily thanks for the comments. I’m not in the Coldwater Army photo, nor credited on the album as I was not a band member. Just a studio musician sitting in on the recording.
Merry Christmas

I think @Walks_At_Night would compare it to Britny Fox.
He can't be trusted, though.
He thinks everything is a Britny Fox copy.

Ha! True....   True.......    It is funny how nothing ever quite matches up either.   Blame it on Kim I guess.

Not just a studio musician. I learned that watching "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", about the Funk Brothers. I always had an unconscious appreciation of the studio musicians. But this really brought it home to me. Excellent movie with great, great music

Very hot. Great, soulful vocal. I'll play it again tonight with the lights low

+45 R.P.M.

The Funk Brothers show at the Belly Up was my number 1 ever show of all time. A religious experience.

Eh, nevermind...

Let’s see if this Video works. This was this past Sunday, me playing with The Chamber Orchestra for a Christmas Cantata at a local Presbyterian church. Unfortunately, the church sanctuary is undergoing extensive renovations and they hold services in the gym. The audio Is wooly. Preaching stops and music begins about 20-minutes in.

I’m under the left screen with my silver hair shining.
