My cat eats canned food, because she is old & doesn't have many teeth for chewing. When I have to work a long shift, I freeze a small container of her wet food overnight. Before I go, I run hot water over the container and even over the food, then I pop the frozen thing onto her plate. I also put a little regular canned food on top of it so she can have something right away. After she eats the top off, she has something she can snack on during the day that the health dept probably would approve of. And since it's frozen, she can't gobble it up in the first hour like she normally would.
My dog always saved a few bites of food for later. Cat is not as smart and gorges herself, then goes hungry later. So, this popsicle cat food thing has worked out great. She seems much happier when I get home. I worried her tongue might get stuck to the frozen stuff, but it never has. I think because I run hot water over it before I serve it.
