Absolutely.  I started one from a seed and it lived for several years in a pot.  In during the winter and out during the summer.  You have to be careful about watering (needs good drainage), don't let it dry out,  and guard it against frost.  I never got lemons, though.
Do the leaves smell? Did it flower?

Yes, they had a nice citrus smell.  You could probably make a tea out of them but I don't know for sure.  Mine would flower every spring but they dried up and fell off.  Probably because it didn't get enough sun in my house.

Thanks, @PolkaDot & @anniem.  Wouldn't it be fun to have an orange tree like the one on the right? You could pick the oranges and wouldn't need a ladder.
