So you're all like, 87?    ;)

This thread is about classic movies-pre MPAA.  I take it reading comprehension isn't one of your strong suits. ::)  I'm not much older than you, for the record.

I almost added The Petrified Forest and High Sierra but had to save something for later.  LOL.  The last few noirs, horrors and westerns that I added were deliberate mentions of underrated films that are favorites of mine. They are highly regarded in critical circles as well but just not as well-known.  Red River is also definitely one of the greats.

Totally there's literally no boring parts during it. A perfect 2 hour movie

There's another b/w movie I just remembered. I was fortunate to catch Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929) during the beginning on TCM one day and had my attention for the whole movie (Didn't even know it was a Hitchcock film)I didn't even know he has movies that went back that far

Check out the Lodger.  It is an even older film but it is a silent, his best one.  Hitch's early films are kind of hit and miss.  Many of them are just dramas with little suspense.  They are generally well-made dramas but they get lower ratings because people watch them expecting Psycho or North By Northwest. My picks from his early film period in Britain are

1. The Lodger - 1927  *
2. Blackmail -1929  *
3. Murder! - 1930
4. The Man Who Knew Too Much - 1934  *
5. The 39 Steps - 1935   *
6. Sabotage - 1936
7. The Lady Vanishes - 1938  *
8. Jamaica Inn - 1939 (historical drama but has Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Hara in her screen debut- she was under contract to Laughton).

* Truly great films

LOL.  I'm 53 so  :P!!  I did appreciate your John Holmes quip though. ;)  Ah the good old days when porn had real actors and sometimes even plots to their films.  However, I appreciate today's less bushy females if not all the tattoos.

Recently watched 55 Days at Peking with Ava Gardner, Charlton Heston and David Niven. The movie wasn't bad but certainly is not going to be in anyone's Top 10 either. What was striking is how partied out Gardner looks. She was only 41 at the time but all the drinking, smoking, partying and fighting with Sinatra definitely took a toll. Her and Heston are essentially the same age and Niven is 10 years older than the both of them. I don't imagine that Niven or Heston turned down too many drinks themselves.

Watched this for the first time in years as I got one of the newer bluray remasters.  Such an amazing cast and hilarious movie.

My friend Damon's TV show Lost began one episode by panning down from the sky thru a big W of palms to one Lost character digging under them and another coming by with a spade offering to help.  That made me LOL when I caught it as it first ran (though I had to rerun the tape to be sure).

But I'm still finding such things in Lost.  I realized only this winter that its Oceanic Air logo was a pastiche of the animated opening credits of Ocean's 11.

And these are all clues to the plot.  The real plot, not what appears superficially to be happening.

Having binged a lot of late 50s, early 60s TV shows, it is amazing how old these people looked. The two Darrins from Bewitched looked like they were in their 60s based on today's standards.

The eternally failed lawyer that always lost to Perry Mason, he looked ancient in the original Perry Mason series. In this video, he looks like shit for a real legitimate reason...

Just learned that the "songwriter" that lived across the way from Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window is David Seville who later created The Chipmunks. Maybe Raymond Burr cut up the wrong person?

Don’t short David Seville

Despite the graphics, the Chipmonks had nothing to do with this one.

Speaking of Rear Window.  I decided to go on a Hitchcock binge.  I've only seen Psycho and The Birds.  So, I rented Rear Window since I'm a Jimmy Stewart fan.  What a boring movie.  Very disappointing.  I recently watched Dial M For Murder and I enjoyed that.  Strangers on a Train and Notorious are on the way.
