Winter is Coming. But no GoT until Spring.  I'm going to binge all the episodes before the last season starts. It's been so long everything that has happened is murky in my memory

That's a good idea TigerLily. It's all a bit murky now for me also. I was a bit disappointed with last season. It felt rushed and too abrupt to really get into the storyline. I hear this final season is supposed to be a short one. I hope not because it seems they have a lot of loose ends to tie up.

Six episodes. That's it. I'm unhappy about this too. Seven years of building up and a year and a half between the 7th season and the last.  Then they only give us 6 episodes to wrap up all the story lines. I think the only way to get the most out of the finale is to watch the whole series again. I've binged each season. I think it's time to follow @ponyboysunset's example and have a Super Binge of the whole series

Kind of sounds like a joke about the perfect boyfriend who is only somewhat lacking at the Big Finale

Omg. That's a tall order pretty toots. PBS sounds like she is fully immersed and up to date on the whole saga. I read the first four books before I watched any of the series. I think that added to my enjoyment of the show. But it did take away some of my shock from the most shocking scenes. *** SPOILER ALERT! *** After reading the Red Wedding scene I couldn't believe that really happened. I actually put down the book and didn't pick it up again for months.

It's going to be difficult to really get into GoT Gab without spoiling it for people who haven't seen it yet

I love GoT and rewatch it all from the beginning to coincide with the start of each new season.

I know there are only 6 eps in the last season but they are going to be super long ones I hear.

SkyTV over here simulcasts the eps when they air in the US and because of my job I have to watch them then so I don’t get spoiled by miserable bastards. So it’s a 2am showtime for me next year! Monday’s are always tough, but longer eps will make things even tougher!

(I also have to do that for Westworld but that’s a different thread!)

I truly hope each episode of the final season is movie length and worthy of this long saga. Plus, they need more kick ass Brienne of Tarth!

Game of Thrones premiered on HBO on April 17, 2011 in the U.SA. There is no way I remember all the names, families or places. Every Monday at my job we would discuss each episode. Eventually I used the Close Captioning to keep up with the names of each character.  At this point I do not plan to go back and binge GOT.  I have to wait until March 2019. Or else I will forget what I want to remember.  "The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives." Praise ElGab!

Before seeing any of the show, I read through Dance of Dragons. Number 5 I think? I loved the first three. But then he really started pissing me off. It was obvious he was going to drag these out as long as possible. Nothing happened in the last book. My synopsis for Dance of Dragons is: A bunch of interesting characters in search of a plot

I actually think the tv series did a better job of tightening up the storyline and dumping a lot of unnecessary diversions. But I do agree it probably made the series easier to follow having read the books

When we were living in Woking (like a decade ago) George R.R. Martin came to one of the local bookstores and did signings. He was all grumpy and wearing overalls with a newsboy style cap. Such a strange duck. Anyway, he was growly about when he was going to finish the series THEN. I think it's safe to say he's lost interest. Especially since the last book, the Dragon one, was the worst of the entire series. I skipped through nearly half the chapters in that one just to make it through. The other books I've read at least twice each.

the Night King has his ice dragon a very deadly weapon. I can not wait for April 14th. There's clearly some kind of connection between Bran, Jon Snow and the Night King. There's a theory that Night King is actually Bran Stark aka The Three-Eyed Raven.
What do the white walkers do with the babies?

I hope @ponyboysunset is ready for Season 8  8)

@DynamoHum YES to making some noise. This Spring, I am will be pulling up my roots in The Kingdom of Drama without Heather Wade. The Kingdom of GOT is coming. Some of my questions for Season 8:
Will the Children of the Forest on GOT save the day?  Bran Stark had a vision of the Children creating the White Walkers a long, long time ago.
Will Cersei Lannister actually survive The Game of Thrones?
What is the connection with Night King, Bran Stark and newborn babies?
At this time, Arya Stark is my favorite female character.

Maisie Williams recently suggested that it would be a good idea for people to rewatch season 1 of GoT ready for the upcoming season.

I was waiting to rewatch all of it for this year until after the season end, but I capitulated and rewatched season 1 over the past few days.

I just finished binge watching through the 6th season. Maybe even better the second time around. I had forgotten some of the events. The immersive experience was excellent! I'm going to binge the 7th and the final season together since this last season is supposed to be so short. So I won't be posting until after the Dragon Lady sings since I will be trying to avoid all spoilers. May be impossible unless my internet goes belly up again. Which is quite possible

Wargs are people with the ability to enter the minds of animals and perceive the world through their senses and even control their actions. The act of doing this is called "warging".
Will Bran Stark enter the mind of Drogon or Rhaegal (the 2 living dragons).  On the other hand, a dragon is not a slave! I know the word slave is a bit much.
Better yet, will Bran Stark enter the mind of Viserion?

This is a good video on Viserion.

They had a recap of the story so far on Sky tonight, me and Marital Unit watched up until the stuff in season 4. He refused to watch it til Season 4. This meant that Season 4 was a lot of pausing and explaining of stuff. Tonight he proved he has the best poker face ever when he asked me why I hadn’t let him watch all of GoT.

I turned around and said “There was too many tits and arse up to season 4 for you to handle.”

In the wise words of Brandon Stark, "We don't have time for all this!"  After waiting 595 days and only 5 episodes remaining, why waste time on all the "family" problems. I wish the writers listened to the wisest person on the series. We don't have time, one dragon is dead, the night King is moving south and Cersei Lannister's broke her promise. Ok, I am moving on and getting ready for episode 2 ::)

The lastest GOT question is about Cersei.
Cersei is very unlikely to give birth to another child. However, how many miscarries does she have? Did she have a miscarriage with Jaime's child prior to her "interactions" with Euron Greyjoy?

Fortune teller, Maggy the Frog: "The king will have 20; you will have three. Gold will be their crowns, and gold their shrouds".

I think she will tell Euron about the pregnancy in an argument and he will kill her to prevent the baby being born.

A lot of people seem to think he is Azor Azhai.

I was talking to my mum about tonight’s ep earlier. I am so unsure as to what will happen that I am completely unable to make any predictions. It’s like ... it’s just going to happen and I am just going to have to deal with it :O

Mostly I am just trying to work out what the best time to go to bed will be in order to get up for 95 mins while the ep is on and then go back to bed afterwards and not feel like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards on my first day back at work for 2 weeks.

@DynamoHum , for me GOT comes on HBO at 9:00 PM. I don't need a nap unless I want one.  :-\
What time does GOT come on your station?
I hope that the hedge is neatly trimmed before you return to work.

The new Azor Ahai will reforge the great flaming sword Lightbringer, which the original Azor Ahai made by plunging the blade into the heart of his beloved wife, Nissa Nissa. It’s safe to assume the new sword will require a similar sacrifice. I think Jon Snow is Azor Ahai.

As you watch GOT for the first time around, you must have mixed feeling. On the plus side, you are completely focused. On the negative side, you may voice your "shock" but no one will hear you.
Mr Fish has some loss of hearing. We use closed caption. Which helps both of us. Mr Fish has read all the books, so he is a good resource. I listen to the GOT's video on YouTube, which makes me a good resource. My favorite video is "Talking Thrones".

I am going to watched last night’s episode one time. 12 hours later, the thrill is gone.
I have more questions than answers.

Is winter is over?
Is Ghost still alive?
Is Bran Stark Evil? "You did nothing, Bran Stark."
Why was it so easy for the Night King and his generals to be defeated? Arya’s assassination of the Night King felt like an intellectual letdown.
Was my television malfunctioning during crucial battle and dragon flying scenes? This episode had incredibly muddy lighting with smeary images. Nearly an artistic disaster.
I sat on the edge of my sofa. I was so ready for to watch “The Long Night”. I rate last night’s episode with a 6 out of 10.

What do we say to the God of Death?

The general consensus is that Ghost is alive.

Winter appears to be climate/orbit related (always reminded me of the threadfall in the Dragons of Pern books), I don’t think it is over - there were thousands of years worth of Winter without the incursion of the NK.

There was a theory I read today that Bran was warning to the crows to plants the suggestion/seed for Dondarrion/Melisandre to complete their tasks to enable Arya to kill the NK/Use the Lord of Light.

Arya has one more kill to do with regard to eye colour if we are going by Mellisandre’s prediction ... Brown eyes for Walker Frey. Blue eyes for NK, Green eyes for Cersei... I think she was always meant to be the one to kill the NK - her whole journey has led up to this ... I will predict she will steal Qyburn’s face to get to Cersei.

Not watched again so can’t see the blurry ... will report back.

The above is all postulation and stuff I have read on the interwebs today - apart from my Qyburn prediction .. that’s all mine ;)

With all due respect, this show is bobbins from beginning to end. They front load these shows with material that they can't possibly work out satisfactorily and then rely on internet nerds to amp up the excitement. They do this with Star Wars, notoriously, but any kind of serial has all this speculation that is usually wide of the mark.

The one clever thing GoT does is hire a lot of good, solid older actors who know what they're doing. Unfortunately the younger ones are generally shit. Get a scene with only the younger ones and try to stay awake through it.

I managed about 20 minutes of the last one. Lots of screeching and Stygian light effects. Big deal.

I expected Game of Thrones to be better. And unfortunately, the show did what it's done so many times before: It turned our expectations upside-down. But being surprised by Game of Thrones has never felt worse.

I’m just enjoying it for what it is, remembering how much I missed it when it wasn’t on, and mindful of the fact t hat it will soon never be new again. I love the feeling of seeing a new episode, and will never feel that again far too soon.

I will watch the last 3 episodes but without hope for an ending that is satisfying. As GOT moved beyond Martin’s books, I had an expectation that David Benioff Friedman's writing skills would improve. Now, I know that there is no legitimate reason to have any hope that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss will end Season 8 with a satisfying and intelligent conclusion.
Littlefinger's death taught me the lesson that Benioff Friedman does not have the talent or imagination to end a story line for one of it's characters.

Do you think Arya Stark has become another Mary Sue character?

I actually think the main thrust of the show has been about her and her journey to who she is now. I think she is a Mary Sue for those who find it difficult to believe or see the journey Arya has taken.

This video captures some my thoughts. I did not think her killing the NK was the best decision. Thank God, I have a better imagination than David Benioff.

This is my ending  ::)
Brandon Stark wargs into a dragon. Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion and Sansa rides this “Bran” dragon. Arya and Theon and ghost will guard Bradon’s body at the weirwood tree. The leader of the White Walkers arrives at the weirwood tree.  Arya, Theon and ghost hold the night king off until Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion, Sansa and the dragon arrive under the weirwood tree. Arya climps up the dragon’s back. Arya jumps off the back of the dragon to attack the Night King.  The Night King catches her by the throat, but Arya is quick . Sadly, she let her Valyrian steel dagger fall from her hand. Sansa manages to hand the Valyrian steel dagger back to Arya. Nymeria appears and bites the Night King’s ankle. While he is distracted by Nymeria Arya stabs him in the chest, causing him and all his White Walker cronies to shatter into tiny shards of ice.

I just can't get behind the thought that Daenerys will be the one to sit in the iron throne in the end. I think it's because I've read enough fantasy series and books with the situation of madness. Usually, if they make a hard point about some past leader going into madness and how this character is related or similar in some way, it usually ends up with said character also descending into madness...

Jaime could also have a part still to play because if history starts to repeat, he took down the mad king...

She’s definitely pissed now.

I found this episode very discordant. It felt uneven, maybe it was supposed to make us feel like that.

Danaerys appears to be part of the wheel once again.

I am guessing that Cersei may possibly die by Euron’s Hand (not like my own personal theory about Qyburn/Arya/Hound/Mountain -  which continued to grow favourably after Arya and Hound went on their road trip together) when Jamie turns up and enquiries after his child’s health.

Pleased for Gendry. He may yet get Arya.

Fuck, it’s all a mess though isn’t it?

Also fuck you Jon Snow for not saying goodbye to Ghost properly.

On another note, one of the best reactions I've seen so far is, "on a scale of Ned Stark to Sansa, how good are you at keeping secrets?"

After Season 8, episode 3, I had to get a grip on reality. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are focused on giving us a big TV production with dragons. I accept that the budget will focus on the dragons and not the direwolves. I have lost all hope with the writers of GOT know how “write” like they are writing a book vs a big budget TV series that has to end. Without any hope, I enjoyed last night episodes. At times, I was laughing. I did not laugh when Ghost was abandon. I did not laugh at hearing that trauma is good for women.

Also

Arya doesn’t plan on coming back .... she’s gonna be the hand of the queen/queens guard .... to Sansa

Arya is never going to be a lady...

Bold claims, but there’s a reason Sansa told Tyrion - she knew he would discuss with Varys, Sansa knows Varys will do the best for the realm...

Sansa is the new Cersei.

Qyburn face takedown ftw.

Anthony Burgess used to talk about writers falling into two categories, A and B. A writers are interested in plot as a priority (Agatha Christie, for example) while B writers are interested in character (say, Tolstoy). Martin wants to be a B writer but he's not quite good enough and he's working in the A genre that has certain expectations about how things will turn out. The first book was good but then the series ran out of control and ended up frustrating a lot of people because they wanted to live in the A genre. That's why the TV show is such a mess, you have two irreconcilable points of view going on at the same time.

Which is a good point apart from the fact that the last two seasons have gone beyond the books, and GRRM stopped writing for the show then as well.

Here we are.
The 3 of us from all over the world as we wait for the final episode of Game of Thrones season 8.
I am in the USA.
@DynamoHum is in the UK.
@Spookcat is in Japan.

What are you guys doing for the final ep?

I’ve got my sister coming over for a final simulcast viewing and pre party. Marital Unit is away for anti kidnap training (yes, really) next week so I need to be able to squeeze/cry etc with someone!

By the looks of the trailer for next week looks like she’s sticking around in KL.

I will go hunting for fanfic about Gendry and Arya in a couple of weeks ;)

Will Gendry Baratheon end up on The Iron Throne as King and Arya as Queen?

LONG story LONG:

Years ago Mr. Fish was seriously injured in battle. He is a retired USA veteran. To this day, he has chronic medical problems.  A few years ago, he had to retire from his job as a parole officer due to his medical issues. He is a true law and order type of guy. He reads at least one book a week. He is always looking for something new to read. My friend who is not only a psychiatrist but also an attorney loves to read. She is one very intelligent female. She made a suggestion for Mr. Fish to read George R.R. Martin’s novels. I purchased the GoT novel for Mr. Fish as a start. He ate the first 5 books up. He is now waiting for The Winds of Winter.

I am a nurse who worked in the emergency department for over 20 years. I saw it all. For extra money I signed up for CBRN defense training.  CBRN = Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear. I was trained for defending our country against the threat of CBRN weapons and Weapons of Mass Destruction. I tried to be serious. However, I had flash back to the X Files’ TV series. They dressed me up like I was going to perform an alien autopsy. At times, I would start laughing during my training. I kept waiting for the Cigarette Smoking Man to show up during my training.

I don’t think @DynamoHum 's martial unit will be laughing during his anti-kidnap training. Will he?

Since the beginning of HBO’s GoT series, Mr. Fish and I order a large pizza and watched GoT. Mr. Fish has the book knowledge and I have the social media knowledge. We will watch the final episode of Game of Thrones season 8 together with our large pizza. Mr. Fish will need to sprinkle extra garlic power and oregano on his slices. I take my pizza as it comes from the shop. I try to take my life and Game of Thrones as it comes…

Did you hear on the Cockles podcast about the agreement between D&D and GRRM to not put the other books out til after the show... I think we may get them quite soon, which I am pleased about as I have held off reading them til after the show is over...

I also had CBRN training when I worked at a USAF base - sobering stuff!

My sister has the book knowledge. We watched ep2 together as well - she knows she isn’t allowed to talk during the show, but we do allow speaking during ad breaks. She bought me a GoT cookbook for Christmas a couple of years ago .. I may put that to use on Sunday!

Hubby will be deadly serious about his training ... I think he might just have to go to Afghanistan this year as well as Democratic Republic of the Congo and maybe Palestine.

GRRM came out with a statement that the books weren't done, that he hasn't even started on the eighth one...

As for who I think should take it all in the finale:

While in my kitchen for hours, I listened to Oysters, Clams & Cockles: Season 8, Episode 5: The Bells, again. Yes, I heard about the book agreement. Wow!!!
@Spookcat , I wonder why GRRM came out with a statement that the books weren't done. What is up with that?
Yes, CBRN training is sobering. I handle stress with humor or music. I blame my Irish DNA.
I am happy to know that you will have your “quiet” sister with you as you was watch THE END. I did not know that there was a GoT cookbook. LOL!
Oh no, your hubby may have to travel to those dangerous areas> I hope not. Most men ans women in that line of work, take training very serious. I would be terrified.

Probably because it was one of the shows actors who started talking about it.

So there is supposedly 4 different ending that have been filmed.

Imagine if eps were sent out to different streaming partners/TV companies with different endings.

HBO gets version 1
Sky gets Version two

Social Media would explode with the resultant simulcast!

Chaos is a ladder....

OK, here we are- GoT, Season 8 Episode 6, 80 minutes long. There are so many WTF “Finale Questions” on social media. However, I have no questions. I will watch the finale episode with my open mind. With that being said, my mind is not really open. After Episode 3, I surrendered. D&D are incompetent writers. I have become another Ban.  "I don't really want anymore."

My Happily ever after:  Samwell Tarly will sit on the Iron Throne, as King. Gilly will be Queen.

As far as television writing goes, Dan and David’s abilities are no better or worse than any other TV writer out there. The problems that surround the two are the themes that creep into their work.

WEISS: We’ll in an undisclosed location, turning off our phones and opening various bottles.

Won’t you be a little curious? I know you’re not big on social media, but you won’t be tempted at all to look at Twitter?
WEISS: At some point, if and when it’s safe to come out again, somebody like [HBO’s GoT publicist Mara Mikialian] will give us a breakdown of what was out there without us having to actually experience it.
BENIOFF: I plan to be very drunk and very far from the internet. ;D

I'm way behind the power curve but just finished my Last Watch tonight. So excellent to the very end. I loved the way they ended everyone's stories. Even the ones who died. My only slight quibble was Daenerys' transformation was a bit abrupt. But no complaints from me and lots of high praise

So. When is the prequel starting?

@TigerLily the prequel? I want to know who will be the writers.

They called "'Wrap!”   Kit Harington was disappointed with Season 8 and so was I. I did not need to go into treatment after the ending of GoT.
I was forced to get a grip after watching Episode 3 "The Long Night." David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (the books) to fall back on. I was so disappointed.  Episode 2 became the final for me, written by “coffee boy” Bryan Cogman.
Disappointed and almost alone. Almost all the people in my life was praising Got Season 8. Everyone except me and Mr. Fish. I went to social media to see if something was wrong with me and my opinion. I found The Dragon Demands. This Dragon had called out D&D years ago. I have climb onto this dragon’s back. I relate to this dragon and it's videos on YouTube.

Seems like it will be all new writers and showrunners. I guess GRRM is also helping provide framework, vision and backstory. And it will be set thousands of years in the past. I had been avoiding like the plague  any slight hint of GoT spoilers until I finished the whole binge. Now I can immerse myself in all the total geekness online. Thanks for link, @FISH . Looks like a good place to start. Here's a link for the prequel https://screenrant.com/game-thrones-prequel-working-title-bloodmoon/

I'm sorry you were disappointed. I would be seriously disappointed if last season left me disappointed (what??).  I've already watched "The Long Night" twice. So intense. And during the second watching I could appreciate the directing and editing. Like choreography. Maybe I could have wished for happier endings. But not really. With GRRM you know that's not going to happen. In fact I was afraid the ending was going to be much darker. No. I'm very satisfied and thought the end of each person's story was true to character. I really think this was the best tv ever

Balance is important. This is one of my favorite videos regarding Jon Snow Story Problems and Alternate Ending

@DynamoHum , OK enough time has passed since the ending of GOT.

What are your thoughts?

I feel very ambivalent about it. There was parts of this last season I loved, parts I was absolutely not in love with and parts that just left me “meh” about. Clearly rushed so D&D could go play with Star Wars, and that’s reprehensible and I hope HBO and others in the industry remember what they did.

There was disservice to characters and there was great service to characters.

The documentary The Last Watch was amazing and I enjoyed that possibly more than the last two episodes. The effort put in by the cast and crew was ultimately shat on by D&D.

I will watch the prequels, and I really really wish there was an Arya spin off. Possibly a Jon spin off as well.

I will definitely get the books read in readiness for the last books coming out - GRRM has had a fabulous focus group for those books he is writing.

@DynamoHum , thank you for answering my question. I respect your views. I enjoyed reading @TigerLily 's take on GoT. @Spookcat has remained wordless on her viewpoint. So what do you say Ms @Spookcat ?

Season 8, episode 1 & 2 were enjoyable. After watching Episode 3 –I was no longer ambivalent about GoT’s Season 8. The greatness of Got was ancient history.

Episode 3 to 6, D&D were noted as the writers. D&D decided to completely ignore logic, common sense, and character arcs just to put the show behind them as quickly as possible.

Episode 2 was written by D&D’s coffee boy, Bryan Cogman.
When Weiss and Benioff snapped up Cogman as their own assistant, they set up shop in a dingy suite of now demolished offices on the former Pickford-Fairbanks Studios lot and asked the guy who thought he was just there to fetch lunches where they should start.

Episode 2 was my favorite episode in Season 8.

I have not watched the documentary The Last Watch. I cannot endure watching D&D being praised. IMO-- Benioff aka Friedman is one of those rich kids who has a strained relationship with their parents. He does not have talent and he has issues.
After reading your comment, I may watch it. I am not a nitwit. I am aware that the cast and crew performed amazing work on Season 8. All my dislike is directed to D&D.

GRRM is not a rich man’s son. He is a brainy one.
