I thought it was Schotz that made Milwaukee famous.
Schlemiel schlimazel...
BTW, PBR has been a mainstay of the rockabilly and Americana music scenes for a while. I'm guessing it still is. They're a big sponsor of a lot of events, etc...
In 1986 I spent about four months traveling around China. Once we got there, we were supposed to sign up with a tourist group, but after we got our visas and made it thru customs, we never hooked up with the group, and went around on our own.
Anyway, we went to quite a few places, there were hardly any hotels, restaurants, shops, there wasn't much of anything as far as consumer commerce. There were no foreign goods at all, anywhere (with some limited exceptions, but that's another story). Other than downtowns in tourist areas, stores of any kind were so rare that if I saw one I'd go in. Many homes and stores had spirit houses, and many also had a little cabinet with the owner's treasures - books, bottles of hooch, photos, various trinkets and so on.
So I go into this tiny store to check it out, and I look over behind the counter and see the ubiquitous cabinet. The store's not well lit and the little cabinet has a dusty glass door. The proprietor is pleased to see me looking at it, and smiling he opens the door.
Inside, crammed with other items is a very old, dust covered, unopened bottle of... Pabst Blue Ribbon.
