C'mon man @PB ginger beef, pork (not ham) there are many edible applications. It's like rosemary.. gotta be careful.
When I was a kid I didn't like ginger bread, didn't like ginger ale, didn't like ginger snap cookies, or ginger candies (still don't, and I pretty much like everything). Being a kid, I never really put it together - if I thought about it at all I assumed 'ginger' was just a meaningless term in the name in those products.
It wasn't until I lived in a place that had Chinese food that I realized ginger was actually a spice (or whatever it is, a root), and there was a very noticeable lousy taste in every dish that contained ginger.
Nothing has changed, you can have my share.
