From the Library of Congress, 1920.

          What Will Mrs. Thompson Say?

It is possible to stunt the growth
of a dog by giving it (blank) when
it is a puppy.  This should not be
done, however.

Fill in the blank correctly and win ten points.

Whiskey!

Everyone missed this one, but now the next Mrs. Thompson quiz will be worth 20 points per correct answer.  Mrs. T. will be out of the office for a couple days, so I wouldn't be surprised if the next quiz will be on a Friday, in which case each correct answer will land you 40 points.

Hm. I wonder what other things Mrs. Thompson knows but "shouldn't be done."

Maybe how to make explosives at home or how to construct a zip gun.

Technically, under the Volstead act, the only whiskey the little girl could get would be moonshine, but since I guessed that based on the previous story rather than by actual thought, I’m not going to go Heather on this thread.

Actually you could get the real stuff (whiskey) via a doctor's prescription.

A vet’s prescription?

And the answer is...yes.  In addition to regular physicians, veterinarians, pharmacists and dentists could prescribe it.

I’ll bet a lot of people got prescriptions to keep their dogs little after this was published.
Merry Christmas
