Tips: I tip 20% as a matter of form. I go out a lot with girlfriends and have been told that waitpersons consider a gaggle of females as notoriously bad tippers. The younger the worse. A friend educated me when we were still in high school, if the service is horrible tip a penny so the person knows you didn't forget but just didn't think the service was worth any more
TL, I had a girlfriend who was a wait person. She had been trained at a higher end restaurant by a long experienced waiter. He had instructed her that in tipping, if the customer had shitty service they would put a few pennies on the table. If it had been the service that everyone craves, a good wait person would find the appropriate tip and small amount of change stacked on the receipt plate. 8 cents, 13 cents, stacked neatly. This was to communicate that the wait person had given
that service and the recipient wanted to show that they had taken the time to acknowledge them, by tipping appropriately and stacking neatly, a small odd sum. Kinda like a golf clap.
My girlfriend at the time thought that she was getting her leg pulled. Until she did get one of
those tips....and a small stack of coin. I believed her. Of course, she told me that she loved me, too.
