Wrestling has never really drawn my interest -- not even when I was young and all my friends were watching and talking about it. I like MMA as well but it should have it's own thread because the strategy is completely different than boxing.
Wrasslin' and boxing I liked. Knew wrestling was fake (in outcome but not in athleticism and pain) but for a decade it seemed more real than boxing with suspect "decisions" influences of certain promoters and weird shit like bitings, failed weigh-ins/drugs, too short matches, rule changes, etc. And the storylines about wrestling, some bordering on racist and more overtly, hilariously, pro-USA was great during Cold War and Iran times. And who can forget Andy Kaufman "from Hollywood" versus the King Jerry Lawler and various big gals?
MMA seems too violent to me and the whole girls fighting thing is not my bag. Though I admit when the Octogon first started and tough-man contests started when there was no weight class or style rules it was fun, in a gladiator kind of way. See some tomato-can "brawler" face a diminutive Asian jujitsu expert with a 100+ lbs difference was interesting.
