I'm taking my Mossberg 590.  With some very light bird shot.  WTF, why don't they make fish shot?  How the fuck are you supposed to mount the head and tail fin if you inadvertently load 3" slugs?

I'd never heard of shooting fish.  Is that after you catch them?  Probably better than letting them suffocate in a bucket like some people do?

I need to buy all new tackle.  Trying to hit the water in a couple weeks.  Bastards raised the license fee again.

Any recommendations on some good bass lures?  I may be the only person that can't catch a bass with spinner bait.   :-[

God, what if you miss the brain the first five tries?  My dad tried to kill an animal once by sledge hammering its head and it did not die for several minutes.  Yuck.  This fish already looked pretty dead.  But the guy seems to know where the brain is but the seizure when slicing it.  I appreciate the info.  I've asked many people this question and you guys with your brain cut and bird shot are the onky answers I've ever gotten.  I wonder if a quick decapitation might work too.

I've noticed some of the vinyl tackle boxes are not waterproof on the bottom.  Kind of stupid, right?

Ha! Absolutely.

Years ago I had a cheap tackle-box made by a Prominent company and the plastic used in the trays would react with fake worms or some lures. Sort of melt and fuse together. Including the tray itself molding a bit into a reverse worm shape! (This was when I was young and just threw the fake worms and lures into the trays and before fake worms had all the gimmicks, scent, etc and kept in own packaging.)

I put it off to something similar to galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals- but in a plastic form!  They have obvious improved their products.

Thankfully they did improved.  But the reaction with the plastics is odd.  However I've had models, etc, that degraded over time and would react in different ways to virtually no outside stimulus. (heat, cold, chemical, moisture)

It reminded me of models or fixing stuff etc. You know how with certain plastics if you use a wrong glue, solvent, or adhesive they can sorta melt plastic? Does plastic 'flow' over time? With a really old model that hasn't been subject to movement?

Friggin Ellgab. Now I'm reading article on Plastic Flow and also on dichloromethane. Where was Ellgab when I was back in school and supposed to learn things??

I'll venture a guess and say brown like most of the waters in Dixie

This happens to me, especially after a EG conversation.

Re: water color. It still changes, even in Dixie, to degrees of brown though in places with fake lakes, old gravel pits, or karst stuff (like here or in some of FLA) you can get crystal clear water. And, obviously, the salinity and "clearness" if fishing on the bays and bayous on rain, tides, etc.

A couple months ago someone I know was a marshal on the BASS tournament and said the lake was very clear but guys were catching them on surface lures. Fish would come up from the way deep. Also one day 100F and then a rainstorm one of the days and they still catch fish. The pros are amazing. He said the worst thing was how they drive. No comfort on boat and they 60mph+ bouncing all over the place, camera guy holding on for dear life, etc.

Idk maybe he was? But water color, temp, salinity, moon phases, season, etc does matter- to what extent and which is more important than others? Companies, guides, and the industry says "a lot," but of course they would.

Ugh.  I just go by the weather and the time of day.  I'm a casual fisherman who likes to catch fish and then release them.  My problem is I haven't caught one fish in three years!!!  The guy next to me on the river bank last time caught 8 or 9.  I moved upstream.  Nothing.   :(

Muddy water, clear water, green water.  It matters.

Sun vs cloudy does as well but not as much.

Huge hammerhead caught in Corpus. I'm not going to be the guy leading it back to water by the head!  It didn't survive and apparently many hooks in the meat after processing.

So how does that affect what lures I use?  Brighter ones if murky?  More active (spinners)?

Maybe if they are IN the bucket but not if they are in the water. In fact sometimes even shooting the actual fish when breaching or jumping, unless in the head (and with hardheads even then,) sometimes won't kill it.  It is all about placement. Folks kill gators and poach deer with .22, illegally but effective at close range and good placement.

Yes, I'm a fish novice who might need to know how to fend for myself someday!  If I shoot in a bucket, full of water of course, won't the bullet damage the bucket or bounce back at me?  It does sound convincing that the shockwave would kill fish.

Just like vehicular wind vortex to a chipmunk...

Okay, but then can I be sure the water will prevent ricochet or a hold in the bottom from the ammo?  I guess it wouldn't matter bec in worst case scenarios, I'd probably save the ammo and not do it.

For people who like to cook their fish just after catching them, Here is one way that I like to cook them.

1) With some foil, coat it with some olive oil
2) Slice some red potatoes, onions, carrots and some garlic in the foil.
3) Then put the fish into the foil and then seal it up.
4) put the foil on the BBQ for about 10 to 12 minutes. Flipping the foil about the halve way point 5 to 6 minutes point.
5) take the foil off the BBQ and open the foil. Add salt and pepper for taste.

Ha. Carp fishing is very popular in Europe and the UK for some reason not as popular here (though there are some aficionados and some folks are being won over, especially because can be caught near urban populations or nasty rivers.)  I'm not quite sure where the distinction is between gold fish, koi, and carp? Scientific or just a matter of size or use?

damon, have you ever caught a fish and put it down your pants, just to know what it feels like?

Asking for a friend. Actually, it was Walks_At_Night, but he told me not to say, so this is just between us.

Damn.  I thought Bart banned your ass a year ago, Zack.  That was a good one but why wasn't the first character a comma as is your wont?

Damn.  I thought Bart banned your ass a year ago, Zack.  That was a good one but why wasn't the first character a comma as is your wont?

Your shifting of the blame is the action of a hound and a rotter, and therefore quite typical of you. As you are incapable of acting in a gentlemanly manner, I am obliged to publish your PM on this subject:

Dear Cleveland,

Please ask damon if he's ever stuffed any fish down his pants. I once had a great-aunt who concealed a gudgeon inside her corset for good luck, and a distant-cousin who liked to attend Klan meetings with a lobster down each trouser leg. I'd ask him myself but people like that scare me. I just gots to know.

Respectfully,

Walks

P.S. If you rat me out I'll deny everything, you Limey bastard!

I think that's perfectly clear. I shall be talking to my lawyer later to see if I can't obtain damages for defamation and inappropriate smiting.

@Cleveland Zackhouse

It's 60 degrees out (using the hero's scale of measurement and not the new world order contrived thing you lot use) and there is not a cloud in the Carolina blue sky.  So you want me to rumble with you?  I can understand your motivation, what with the Red Roosters Rectum closed down due to Corona-Chan and you not knowing what to do with yourself, but what do *I* get out of it exactly?  I've got cars to wash, weeds to pull and other productive things to do.  So just go pull out your gummified Screw Magazine from 1987 and drool over Samantha Fox some more.................

* Pssst.  There are cat people in here remember?  Be nice. Leave Wyngarde down in the cellar where he belongs.

C’mon man!  I’ve given up on the Falkie thread and you are trying to pull me back in.  To be honest I’m more worried about getting back to the US.  I need to make it 2 for 2 for my family escaping Castro rule.
