2022 Winter Olympics
« on: February 07, 2022, 04:46:42 PM »
What? No Olympics thread yet? I guess things are just warming up. Well, I'm happy to start one. I recorded the Downhill Racing so this may be a little bit old news but always awesome. My Superguy is 24 year old James "call me Jack" Crawford from Toronto. I guess there is a whole new pack of young Canadien racers who call themselves "The Wolfpack".  Jack hit 85 mph coming down the mountain. Currently in second place. I will see if I can get an update

Here was my entry from the open lines thread.

Imagine working your whole life to make the Olympic Team. You head off to a land of an ancient and vibrant culture.  Time for the event of your life. The bus then drops you off on some ramp in an industrial waste land, wedged between a pesticide factory and the power plant:

Heh, not exactly the Swiss Alps.  I’d say it’s a safe bet I won’t be seeing this on the Earth Porn thread.

Is it true that Uyghurs will be holding the biathlon targets?

I’ll bet they did a better job of planning for transportation than the local yokels in lake placid did in 1980

Are we having fun yet?

I am sure the PRC can make the buses run on time. Still I'd rather have some transportation woes than trying to ski when it is 50 degrees out and breathing in off gases from malathion production.

I've been enjoying the figure skating.  OMG, that 15 year old Russian girl is something else.  Johnny Weir stated that she's the best skater he has ever seen, and that he has seen hundreds of figure skaters over the years.  Imagine how good she might be in the next Winter Olympics.

Could the venue for Freestyle Skiing be any uglier. But I'm sure the Chinese think it's fabulous. "We have nuclear power and you don't. Nyah nyah nyah nyah." And I bet they store the nuclear waste right next to the ladies room. Disgusting

The Boys on Ice was excellent. Nathan Chen exceeded the hype. Skated away in first after the short program. And the Japanese guy Yuma something was excellent. The other American, Nathan Brown, did a beautiful artful program but no quads so not sure if he can win without those points but stylistically so impressive

I watch almost everything except cross country skiing type events.
I will not watch figure skating because it seems like a trap to look at underage bumbums.

Same for gymnastics... in the Summer.

Curling a really comfortable thing to watch. Simple concept and rules and an abnormally amount of attractive people playing in the mixed doubles for a sport that doesn't necessarily need top peak fitness. I got so many questions are the team all screwing?  8) Is curling the only winter sport with the exception of figure skating that you can see the participants face without goggles or shields or head covering?

Last night I saw side by side snowboarding down a mountain which was fun.
