Check out this beautiful 1878 silk wedding gown from The Met collection:

While white is now de rigueur for bridal attire, the fashion for white wedding gowns originated only in the late 19th century and was not commonplace until the 20th century. This dress is a good example of the more practical 19th century practice of brides wearing colored gowns for weddings. The wedding dresses could then be worn again for other receptions and social events. A well-made and finely-detailed example of the period, this dress would have been described as a "cuirass" or "cuirass style" at the time it was made, a term that refers to the form-fitted bodice. A steel-boned corset helped to achieve the ideal figure for the cuirass style in the 1870s and 1880s.

You know I have a love for Art Nouveau this evening dress is from the House of Worth. It’s black velvet on ivory satin. 1898-1900

The back of this gown is absolutely amazing. Elizabeth Hawes FW 1936-1937. “Diamond Horseshoe” Bias cut silk jersey.

I follow A LOT of historical fashion, corsetieres, and museums. So beautiful things are always popping up on my Instagram and in my podcasts, or I find them in reference material and then I go down rabbit holes. I love being surrounded by beautiful things IRL and virtually.  :)

This time of year has me day dreaming of evening gowns. This dress (circa 1935) gown is so pretty, even though the fabric is a bit strange I still love it. It's an Elsa Schiaparelli.
