I think it is because Michael Wagener didn't mix Under Lock And Key.
His mix on Tooth And Nail was great.
Indeed. However the guitar sound on Tooth N' Nail is a tad abrasive IMO but I love the songs. That album started me on the vocal path. Dancing around the house singing into an unplugged 58. Bullets To Spare and Heartless Heart were the only ones I could get through at the time, but the chorus for Bullets was at the very top of my range at the time.
BULLets to spare. The high middle C when one hits the BULL in bullets was rough. And they were even tuned down!
EDIT: Wasn't dancing around the house. More like standing there in the kitchen looking out the window to watch for anybody coming to the door and hearing me. Got caught once and it was fucking awwwkard. Cough* "How bout those Lions" "they're gonna go all the way this year"
