Thank you @Bart Ell, @anniem, @Mr Apnea, @BartEllProducer, @Starbuck Twitch, @Bobs Your Uncle and @FISH, for playing the What Will Mrs. Thompson Say? game.

Mrs. Thompson says that it is fortunate to find out that the girl doesn't love Bill before a marriage takes place.  FISH hit that one square on the head.  Mrs. T. has Bill writing a letter to the girl so that she can do some 'splainen.  Sorry, but she didn't tell the guy to go back home to confront her face to face.

Stop writing to the out-of-town guy.  When he writes you a letter asking you to be very frank about your regard for him, then you can simply tell him the truth.  If you don't want to tell him the truth, you can always write "Moved - Left No Address" on the letter and send it back.

If Mrs. Thompson were here, she would say, "I can ride, I can shoot, and I don't mind the cold.  In fact, I kind of like the cold."  (20 bonus points if you can guess what favorite movie of mine that I stole that line from.)

She wants to "drop" the out of towner, she can write mentioning that she met a nice man near home. To totally drop him and not keep in touch as friends must mean she does not want to be friends, so she can write to let him know that she has enjoyed writing but will not be continuing to do so.

Tell him the truth. Break it off like a piece of a Kit-Kat bar. Jezebel!

An evil Chinese lady tried to feed me #CheeseTurd soup last night. I put my spoon in the soup to take a bite and there they were.

Write him a letter telling him that this isn't working and the distance is to great.  Be kind and gracious.

Either tell him the truth or take the easy way out - tell him you are gay.

Dear Fickle  Worried,

It is best to make a clean break. Be honest and hopefully you can remain on friendly terms.

Obviously, from what we’ve seen previously, you just stop replying to the out-of-town man’s letters and let him stew.
As you are not engaged, you could continue to reply to the out-of-town man and go out with the in-town man enough to be sure he’s better. But that probably makes too much sense.
Or you could write the man and tell him you have enjoyed his company but need to move on and hope you remain friends.
Merry Christmas

Be honest, write him a letter. Do not WORRY about his feelings. Love is fickle.
