Exactly.
It's known as a work ethic and used to be instilled at an early age.
It's pretty much non-existent now, in the younger generation.

@FISHNot in the least.        ;)
I agree, but we must remember that before 1938, children had been working in all kinds of jobs and all kinds of conditions.  I'm sure there were many instances where kids were working under heinous conditions but, in retrospect, I have a feeling that Roy wasn't one of them.  The mere fact that he was working in an open environment, with kids playing on trycycles, leads me to believe that he was doing so willingly.  I myself used to work at minor jobs, starting at the age of 12.

1- it is good for a cautious young man to get to know several girls before choosing one.
2- It is improper for young ladies to telephone gentlemen. Tell her you are otherwise engaged.
3- It is well and proper for some young men with sufficient salary to marry, however, your questions one and two indicate you are not among them.
Merry Christmas

1. Yes as long as you are honest and upfront with all of them about seeing other girls.
2. Tell her the truth.  If she is offended then she should move on from you.
3. Yes, you are old enough to be married.  However, it does not sound as if you are the marrying type.  Age and salary are not all that are required to make a good husband. Loyalty and honesty go a long way towards maintaining a healthy marriage.

1. A real pimp like yourself would try and see how many you could “spend the evening with” on the same night, possibly even at the same time.

2. Ask her if she’s down for a menage a trois, if she says no, bump her to Wednesday until a suitable replacement can be found. If she says yes, tentatively pencil her in for Saturday as you will have your work cut out for you contacting the other 6.

3. Ask yourself this, how sufficient does your salary look after you take out for child support and alimony. Always remember, pimpin ain’t easy.

  • Absolutely not.  Settle on one or two favorites with an eye on settling down.
  • Do you believe the young lady truly cares for you or is her interest in you based on jealousy or competition
with other young ladies?   If you feel her interest is genuine then you will need to decide if she is
someone that you want to continue on with.  If yes then see her more often.  If no, then stop seeing
her and be as truthful as you can. She might be hurt and disappointed but the situation would only get
         worse over time.
  • In general, a man of your age with means to support a wife is old enough.  Based on what you have
said it would seem that you may not yet be ready.

I'm guessing that life expectancy for a man born in the US in 1900 was probably still under 50 years of age.
I'm also figuring that most went to work after 8th grade so many at 19 probably several years of work under
their belts.

1.  No.  Stick to one at a time
2.  Give her a chance and how the hell did she find a phone, she must have one strong arm turning that crank.
3  Look, we just went through WWI and the Spanish Flu, and to top that off, we all die in our late 40s.   Start reproducing now!  Yes get married.

1. Yes
2. Thank her for calling, tell her he is not ready to settle down and cannot see her as often as she wants.
3. No, too young.

1. Generally it's not a problem, unless one of the girls wants to see you so often that you don't have time to see all your other girls.

2. Oh, no!  You're in a tough spot.  This girl obviously thinks highly of you, and any excuse you give for cutting back on your visits will offend her.  You might as well tell her the truth.

3. Some 19-year-olds are, but you aren't.  You're already burdened with a girl who wants to see you too often for your liking, and you're asking about a WIFE??  Come on!

Almost all of you got questions number one and three right.  Question number two was a bit more dicey though.  Mrs. Thompson expressly stated that the girl was to be spoken to bluntly, that Youth Boy would be making the calls from now on and not vice versa.  Be truthful and teach her a lesson, so to speak.  Congratulations Kwisatz Haderach, anniem and Starbuck Twitch.  You all got three points.
