A guest was talking about his weight lifting accident. He said he ruined his arm trying to hold a lift that he shouldn't have. He described hearing is arm snapping from the shoulder and it sounding like a tree branch breaking. The guest then remarked that he needed extensive surgery and it was tough. What was George's response you ask? He said "super" then quickly started talking about something else.
Yes, that was near the beginning of Hour 3 on "Alternative Health"/Cultivating Toughness 02/16. It just dawned on me - that gaffe might have come after that female caller hit on George very awkwardly. Do you think maybe he was still reeling from that? Ha, ha, George, sorry you had a bad night, lol.
Well, the gaffe could have been an inadvertant, ill-timed splice by a producer. I know they do that; you can tell. But they have at least 40 seconds to edit it out live, and they could have edited it out of the re-play versions, but they haven't.
If George weren't so prone to sequeway gaffes, I might think this gaffe was male bitchiness. Bitchy at a guy with the off-handed nerve to declare he has arms like tree trunks? For perhaps tmi? For talking about toughness, while many of us are over-the-hill? Hmmm. Well, in any case, there is no need to be mean about it. And you have nothing to be jealous about. No one fills out 3/4 sleeves like you do! Just be sure to keep getting your Royal Canadian Air Force exercise in several times a week!
It's not like the guest had said something terribly traumatizing, criminal or obscene.
George would probably say he, as a host, hadn't meant any harm, that he meant he was glad the guy got a necessary surgery. That listeners should infer he meant well, because he is usually is gracious.
To George's credit, he has sounded much more graceful toward callers and guests. I rarely hear that annoying, "Tut, tut, tut" or lectures about protocol during showtime. So, that's nice. But don't be mean or backwards, George! Even though maybe you were off-kilter because some southern caller tried to spice you up with her grace! The southern ladies seem to really like you. LOL.
