I've not heard of Laura Lee, she good?

She was, back in the '80s and into the early '00s the very best. She did her show from Seattle with her hubby Paul running the board.

Now it's like she was a Mandela effect, finding anything on her is near impossible, albeit youtube has some few left up:

I had no idea there was a money train or classes. That is a great idea. My last few visits did not include casinos, too much health business to take care of.  :P
During the time coins were used for slot machines they would empty the machines around 4 am. A money train and security would come out to empty the machines. That was my time to leave the casino.

Yes, right in my little side table here.
It's kind of fun opening up the old Art websites and seeing where Keith's web skills were at the time.

Suffice to say, the game has moved way on in all manners.

But as a memory ride - amazing. Some of this should find its way into the Art Bell memorial podcasts, imo.

You bet anniem. Like PB said replay's aren't the same. In my opinion, nobody in the Biz could touch Art broadcasting live. It was a thing of beauty even on his off days.

I’ve been going to Vegas since 2000, the tail end of the coin era. The smell fo coins is an odd smell, but it reminds me of Vegas. I used to collect the coin buckets and bring them home. I used to love plopping a bucket full of coins into a hopper to get them changed up or taking the bucket to the cage! Bellagio used to give away very elegant gloves you could wear so your hands didn’t get dirty.

Because of the jet lag and my extreme excitement my first few days in vegas would start at around 3am - this is the time they empty all the machines of bills and the quietest time in the casino. I love that time, it’s and i can wander around with no crowds.

I’d always ring home about 4 am - midday at home. We always stay downtown I knew exactly where all the webcams and traffic cams were downtown, and I would often ring hom tell them which cam to bring up, get off the line, go wave for 5 minutes then ring them back!

Not been for a few years, I miss downtown!

I liked keeping the coin buckets too. Never thought about the cams though. Now we can skpe or video hangouts. I do notice the traffic is crazy now in Vegas, so crowded everywhere.

But that's functionally no different than the dearth of apparent imagery of UFOs, is it? So what are we left with, massive holographic manipulations, stacked dimensions of varying solidity, or could it be that the "powers that be" have a real tight hold on their own death star technology?

Once I retire I'll be able to go to some of the places I've heard about where odd things happen. That'd be fun.

And live, late at night, driving or even setting at home on radio: magic in the static.
Art was to talk radio what Wolfman Jack was to spinning the wax.

Used to listen to him on XERF from Mejico - you could drive the entire border and never lose his signal - and you talk about magic in the ether - wow.

I don't know about the whole karma thing but thanks. I recall driving to Vegas with friends and introducing them to Art over beers and long road trip there (kids don't do this) and the late night on the way to Vegas and they were mesmerized. "Who IS this guy?" "What the HELL?" A perfect storm: in the desert, middle of nowhere, listening on AM which would break-up a bit and I'd manually tune back in (old "dual knobby" car radio) and some crazy spooky topic and an electric storm. Was awesome. Better than Vegas was in recollection.

+1 - brilliant visuals, I can feel that from here! :)

Verses today. We have social media and no more mysterious host talking talking on the "air waves".

For that the closest now is low power FM, and it's just not even the same ballpark :-(

Of course if you do SW there is still WWCR. ;)

Absolutely @PB . No wonder no one wants to watch the Academy Awards. I use to like De Niro's movies.

Ditto that, in spades.

"Casino" one of the greatest flicks ever, but do I want to know that Ace was played by a common egomaniac who beats people up for parking spaces?

>sigh<

I think it worked out better when there was some mystery about the entertainer in question, whether that was Art Bell, ballplayers, or Hollywood folks.  I sure liked sports a lot better when the only time we heard from the athletes was a few minutes in an interview after the game.
Athletes have nothing more to say to me that actors - play your game, save the monologues for your friends and family.

My mother lives in Las Vegas. My father liked to play blackjack, while my mother preferred to play the poker machines. I don't like gambling, so I'd just watch. Casinos are interesting places, lots of good people watching. Now the machines are all electronic, winnings are added to cards as opposed to falling loudly out of the machine, which added to the whole casino thing if you ask me. Kinda sad.

Oh man, it's been so long that the last time I casino'd they still had nickel slots and little cardboard tubs for the winnings - carbon date me.

What does "spinning the wax" mean?

@DynamoHum , YES! Filling up those buckets would be so exciting. I would cash in my coins and take my cash to the craps table.  So many "cowboys" were superstitious at the crap's table. As I laid my cash down for change at the craps table some players would pick up their chips. They were not going to play at a table with a female at the table. Let alone a redheaded female. As I would roll the dice and make my point, players would come back to the table. The best place to play craps was at Binion's Gambling Hall. However, you better know the odds on a win.
