I used to need it rolling down and out from the inside on the bottom thanks to a little nutty doggie who liked to paw the roll downwards. I used to have it rolling down from the outside, But after finding much of a roll all over the bathroom floor two times, I switched. Took care of the problem, and he knew enough to stop as he wasn't getting his satisfaction trashing up the place.
He's long gone now, sad to say, so I'm back to the old rolling down from the outside.
