I hate the use of the term artist, when they mean musicians.  Some are and some aren't.  Person X, that I've never heard of, is an ''artist'': that tells me absolutely nothing - I don't know if they're a sculpturer, a painter, a poet, what?   

By the way, where is the line drawn?  If I pick up a tambourine, am I now an artist too?

I think it's a form of job title inflation, but with an even larger slice of hubris thrown in.  Garbage men are sanitation engineers, teachers are educators, the mailman is now a letter carrier (like that's any better).

Oh, an artist.  We need to listen to them.  Somehow over the past 50 years or so ''students'' and ''artists'' have been deemed wise observers of society and we need to follow their lead on social issues.

@PB Similar to YouTube people being called "influencers."  They sure don't influence me.  There has been a degree or label of value placed upon positions and/or people that by no means deserve it.  So I do get where you are coming from in your last two posts.

To me the phrase '15 minutes of fame' has become '15 years of fame.'  I find it ridiculous what is held in esteem nowadays.  I see a bunch of insufferable, attention craving, vapid, individuals who somehow have achieved success with no real intellect or talent.
