TRUE DETECTIVE
Season 3
episode 8

"1980 Detective Wayne Hayes" discovers his banishment to the Public Information department will feature his being assigned to a desk w/ a blue  IBM Selectric II typewriter for 8 hours a day.  In that scene, four more Selectric IIs are seen on other desks. True Detective Season 3 was bat-shit crazy with Selectric IIs.

Blue Selectric IIs.                       to the tune of Wooden Ships

If you smile at me I will understand
That you can touch touch type
When I can only hunt and peck at best

I will dictate, my friend, and you type the words
All we need now is a few sheets of 20 pound bond
To write the story of our lives

Blue Selectric IIs alone in the store room
Rusted and dusty from long misuse
They still have purpose and a story to tell
We'll grab them and run from this digital Hell

Special thanks to TigerLily for inspiration.

Also, I suppose I have to acknowledge a tad of influence, some teeny weeny, itsy bitsy amount, really - a mere atom of attribution - to the talent that was/is a barlely heard of music group called Queen and their never heard of before B-side song,  entitled FAT BOTTOMED GIRLS.

"Font-Ball That Whirls"
by Camazotz Automat

Ah
You gonna type  me home tonight
Ah
Down beside that desk lamp light
Ah
You gonna let it all bang out
Font-ball that whirls
You make the writing world go round

Hey!

I was just a skinny grad
Never knew good words from bad
But I could laugh before I had my misery
(huh)
Left alone with big-keyed QWERTY
She was such a Shift Key flirty
Selectric Rose, you made a writer out of me

Hey hey!

I've been typing with my hands
On the internet, across broadband,
I've seen every word processor on the way
(hey)
But their software and their files
Caught a virus after a while
Take me to them Selectric Twos  every time

C'mon!

Ah
Won't you type me home tonight?
Ah
Down beside your desk lamp light
Ah
And you give it all you got
Font-ball that whirls
You make the writing world go round
Font-ball that whirls
You make the writing world go round

Hey, listen here!

I got deadlines and dead phones
Fingers heavier than stones
Ain't no WiFi spot in this locality
(I tell you)
Oh, but I still write that caper
Got my twenty-four pound paper
Red IBM, you done made a wordsmith outta me
(now get this)

Oh
(I know)
You gonna type me home tonight
(please)
Oh
Down beside that desk lamp light
Oh
You gonna let it all bang out
Font-ball that whirls
You make the writing world go round
(yeah)
Font-ball that whirls
You make  the writing world go round

Live at your desks and write!

Ooh, yeah, oh, yeah
Font-ball that whirls
Font-ball that whirls
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Allright
Write 'em come on
Font-ball that whirls
Yeah, yeah, write

I can only say, that based on her Selectric post, it is safe to assume she can appreciate a whirling font-ball set to song.

Yes. That whirling Selectric font-ball. Quite the trick. And one (@KSM) may assume the ode to the Selectric II is in my image. One would assume incorrectly. Where's my Wite-Out?

One KSM could derive a few jokes from that but at this point, for some reason, he remains stumped.  :-\

His imagination is all worn out. Take a breather. Have a cup of coffee before breakfast
