My friend Patty's recently expressed opinion that the reason US government is now "admitting" that it has long known of these phenomena, and that many suspect more info is to be disclosed, is to give the appearance of there being an alien threat to humanity, and thereby have an excuse to impose even more draconian controls on behavior than have been deployed against Covid-19, is
