loginThis insect flew into the house one night and I thought it was a dragon fly at first, but no. On closer examination, it turned out to be a giant lacewing, or Ithonidae, if you'd like to go by its Latin name. These critters have been around for awhile, there are fossils of them from the Jurassic Period...some 4 million years ago. There are regular lacewings here at the garden, and they are wispy, little moth like flying insects that like to fly up to your mouth on a summer evening and give you a bitter tasting kiss. This was a big one, possibly the first giant lacewing I've ever come across. It didn't attack me, so I bottled it up, took it outside and released it into the warm summer air.
