How long ago did you plant it? Is it a fast grower?
I do a weekly video chat with my mom and my brothers, one brother is terminal so we want to be able to spend time together. My little brother is in our family home, and he showed us the huge trees that my father planted 40 something years ago. We all remember jumping over them back then.
I picked it up at a nursery, in a small pot, and put it into a bigger pot, where it grew about five or six feet high, over six or seven years. I very nearly gave it away to someone when I couldn't find a spot to plant it, but then I dug a hole where the pot was and planted it there. That was about two years ago and it is now about ten feet high. It's not very far from my backyard deck, and I'll have to deal with it being too close, in another fifty or sixty years.
