chat room tips
« on: July 30, 2018, 09:29:39 AM »
you have some control over somethings in the chatroom.
you can:

set mode +D to keep everyone from pming you /mode <my nickname> +D

use /silence +<nickname> to keep a nick from pming you ( -nickname removes them from the list)
however you will still see any messages in the main channel. irc operators (currently just me) , servers and services may override this.

register a nickname to protect it from abuse by others and for the channel  mods (i will chose any if i have the need to)  to get a @ automatically.

set mode +G to filter out bad words (not set up yet, waiting on opinions) /mode <my nickname> +G

i may consider more channel options through cerberus, if you want something ill consider it. and no i wont let just anyone kick/ban lol.

notes:
im asking for opinions on bad words to filter, id any. currently considering c*** and ni***r , mainly because i despise those 2 words.

So do I, but more so with the second word.  Thank you for considering our input.

I've been a Sunday Tunes member since day one.  It's always been clothing optional. ;)

That's only because you're new to chat and it's summertime right now.  Also, now that a lot more people are coming in, the AC in on overdrive.  Back when we first started there were only one or two of us, and the AC worked just fine.

Wait till winter, my friend. ;) ;D

register a nickname to protect it from abuse by others and for the channel  mods (i will chose any if i have the need to)  to get a @ automatically.
[to register a nickname:
type /ns register <password> <email>

password is suggested to be 5 chars (10 is better) in length. space is not a character. do not use you nickname (or real name for that matter)  as a password. the email is for password recovery.
if you do not id to the nickname it will expire in 21 days after last id. EDIT i changed it to 90 days.

that command is :
/ns identify <password>

to prevent others from using you nickname you can set the kill command:

/ns set kill on
this gives the offender 1 minute to change their nick, then nickserv will change it

/ns set kill quick
gives the offender 20 secs to change their nick

/ns set kill immed
changes their nick with no notice -note that it will not give you time to identify, this is not recommended.

finally
/ns set secure on
this is so you must enter your password with /ns identify before nickserv will recognize you. this is because of other features that no one here will use .

both of those are now part of  the badwords list. (the only 2 atm) the channel is set so they will be filtered out.
you can set it so they will be filtered for you (in say a pm) by /mode <mynickname> +G

WR250 thank you so much for the awesome tunes and for monitoring the chat room.  Just one question....is the word Manilow allowed?
