Fortunately the 5* hotel was less than 220 feet behind them so hitting the showers was soon to follow.
I have not watched the video, to be fair.

While this isn't as funny or interesting as a spice girl playing water games, I received a rather official looking letter from a law office today. It basically was a cease and desist for misgendering my cat.
I constantly refer to my terminally ill boy cat as a princess cat. Mainly because he was like a persian, very fluffy. He has lost much of that with this illness, but I called him that for years and I will continue to...
It must have been slow in the office. It really looks official, obviously pulled from a template. Signed by a real lawyer, not my child who is an intern at a neighboring practice. Hahahaha!

White asparagus? Haven't seen that. Then again all I know about it is that it tastes good and if you dig it up with your Tonka construction truck after your Mom has waited three years for it to mature, you catch it hot.

Yeah, I remember reading about that. The F-105 seemed like an odd aircraft to use in an aerial demonstration team. It would go like a bat out of hell, particularly on the deck, but it was not agile. In SEA, F-105 pilots would dive for the deck at full throttle if challenged, they'd soon run the shorter range NV MiGs out of gas.

T.J. On WABC had on a guest last night who had set up some kind of marijuana sting operation that snared some crooked cops. TJ tried to interview him but he only wanted to yell about dope smoking - in favor of it. In studying maps of the world, I had wondered why India owned a little hunk territory between Nepal and Bhutan. Seemed kind of strange. Why India has territory between the Himalayan states?
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Looked into it and until fairly recently this was not the case. That territory was the Kingdom of Sikkim and for centuries was ruled by Priest Kings.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Guess this got under the Indians skin and in the mid 70's they put tens of thousands of troops into the Kingdom and held a referendum. Lo and behold the Anschluss passed and that was the end of the Kingdom of Sikkim. Don't know enough about it to determine if this was for good or ill for the people there.

In studying maps of the world, I had wondered why India owned a little hunk territory between Nepal and Bhutan...
Before the Europeans showed up, India (including Pakistan and Bangladesh) consisted of some 300 smaller kingdoms. The various European powers at first wanted to control trade, but slowly took political power from those various entities. They never incorporated the kingdoms of Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, etc.
In the early 1960s an American named Hope Cooke married the king of Sikkim, and became Queen Consort.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope_Cooke (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope_Cooke)
India always controlled Sikkim's foreign policy, as they do for Bhutan. Sikkim is one of several places in the Himalayas where the Chinese military has built roads to the border and well into India, it's the likely main invasion route should they invade India.
-
... some 300 smaller kingdoms...
One, in what's now northern Pakistan was the Muslim State of Swat. At one point during its history the term for their leader was Sultan. There actually was a Sultan of Swat. Lol.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The artist's relative had this and was downsizing. While she is certainly not a famous artist (Arleen Huseby), she was an art teacher for a continuing education course and did work as a high school art teacher. She married a man (C. Elmo Gillett) who was also an artist. It's obvious they traveled together because I found its twin painting of a Maui beach scene...

I love that they were at the same place doing the same thing.
When I got home, I sent a picture to one of my kids who is demanding that I go pick up another one of her paintings. She did a lot of Southern California stuff and it just looks like home.

If you're still interested in India's map, here's a bit of information I came across a while back. Apparently there are dozens and dozens of enclaves in India and Bangladesh, some within Bangladesh belonging to India, and vice-versa.
If that isn't odd enough, some of the enclaves have counter-enclaves within them, and there's even one counter-counter-enclave. These must have been set tup during partition due to Hindu vs Muslim populations.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India%E2%80%93Bangladesh_enclaves (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India%E2%80%93Bangladesh_enclaves)
Turns out these micro-enclaves are worldwide, including some that affect the US.

That there was a pilot made for a Catch 22 TV show starring Dreyfus as Yossarian
Here's a failed pilot for a proposed TV series version of the 1970 Mike Nichols film "Catch-22" that aired on the ABC Network (and thus, via WLS Channel 7 in Chicago) on Monday, May 21st 1973 as part of a block of other ultimately unsold (or "busted") pilots (under the banner of "Comedy Trio") that also included "The Barbara Eden Show" (which co-starred Joe Flynn, Roger Perry, Moosie Dryer and Pat Morita) and "The Karen Valentine Show" (starring the perky "Room 222" co-star and "Match Game" panelist Charles Nelson Reilly).
This pilot - involving the goings-on of the 256th Squadron, stationed at Pianosa, an island off the coast of Italy ("the craziest bomber group in the Air Corps") - starred Richard Dreyfuss as lead bombardier Yossarian, with Dana Elcar as Colonel Cathcart, Frank Welker (perhaps most famous as the voice of "Freddy" on the long-running "Scooby-Doo" cartoon series) as McWatt, Stewart Moss as Korn, Suzanne Zenor as Nurse Duckett, Robert Pratt as Orr, Sam Chew as Aarfy, Nicholas Hammond (who was one of the von Trapp children in "The Sound of Music" and later the star of the short-lived 1978 live-action series version of the "Spider-Man" comics), as Nately, and J.S. Johnson as Doc Daneeka.
The plot starts off with Yossarian (in a voiceover) glad he's not on the latest mission, instead heading back to his girlfriend, Ginger McDougal, back home, after landing his plane at Pianosa to refuel, having completed 30 missions - but his co-pilot's tour of duty is just starting! As Yossarian notes, Pianosa is a loony bin with a commanding officer who loves to play with toy soldiers, which segues into the opening titles.

The Rise and Fall of Laudanum: The Drug That Built The Gilded Age
This is the untold story of America's first opioid crisis—and how Purdue Pharma copied the exact same playbook 120 years later. The corporate tactics, the targeting of women, the media manipulation, the blocked regulations. Every strategy that created the modern opioid epidemic was perfected in the Gilded Age, which was the period from about the late 1870s to the late 1890s, which occurred between the Reconstruction era and the Progressive Era.

Vanderbilt University anthropologist Tom Dillehay, who has studied Monte Verde extensively since the 1970s, cited "many methodological and empirical errors" in the new study.
Its interpretation of the wood, Dillehay said, "disregards a vast body of well-dated cultural evidence associated with Monte Verde, including stone tools, wooden and bone artifacts, edible plant remains including seaweed and potatoes, hearths, human footprints, and animal meat and hide remains."
"These and other elements constitute a complex cultural context that has been extensively documented over five decades of interdisciplinary archaeological research," Dillehay said. "In turning to their data, it is a mixture of inventions and misunderstandings. They saw what they wanted to see, and came to the site with predetermined conclusions."

Surovell is known for publishing against alleged pre-Clovis sites, he does have a bias. But that is fine, you can be a long-term archaeologist and have an opinion, and there is a lot of sensationalism around pre-Clovis that needs to be criticized from somewhere.
I think Surovell is stretching things when he states the 11-thousand-year-old ash layer is "below" the site, in fact as you can see from the diagram and reading the paper, it is simply "absent". He qualifies it as "stratigraphically below" sometimes, which is accurate, but that depends on the stratigraphy he proposes, which is an interpretation.
It would be more accurate to state that the 11kyo ash layer in his stratigraphy predates the cutting of the river channel in which the site is found. The ash was deposited on a boggy peaty wetland (evident from the photos) and the river channel would have drained the wetland if it existed before then. They are going to be fighting about this for years.
Far more persuasive is the identification of a source of old bones and old wood upstream of the site that could have washed down and contaminated it or (though he doesn't say) could have served as a source of fuel and tools for the site's occupants. You can burn old wood, I have experimented with bits of wood eroding out of a bluff around here that has also produced mastodon tusks and it burns just fine if you dry it out. And a several-thousand-year-old gomphothere bone that just washed up on your little beach might make a good digging stick or whatever.
It is harder to explain the chewed seaweed balls or securely dated potatoes (though these are native to the Andes) but these samples apparently disappeared in a fire which is awfully convenient.

Pay attention to dr spender pelton in the upper right who demolished their simplistic view of erosional terraces 🤣
Surovell oversold his thesis, there is no 11kyo ash physically below Monte verde, I could propose a scenario where the monte verde terrace was formed due to erosion BEFORE the ash layer, and the tephra deposited atop it was swept away in subsequent flooding (common as glaciers retreated).
They need a geologist and not an archaeologist, that is clear
This is hardly definitive
