According to him, he did play trombone, but the good playing was a Watrous overdub.

I don't know that we'll ever get the zeal of the 90's back.  I was hopeful, then.

Back then the Nevada desert was Mecca for the paranormally inclined.

Maybe the world has always been as fractioned as it is now — but we could imagine otherwise because we were technological islands.  And now we're confronted daily by the rust that corrodes civilization, and it desiccates optimism.

I don't know.

One of the figures I admired — in the field of the weird — and one of the people I consider synonymous with those "heady days," is Glenn Campbell, who is still alive:

but not for long.

He's the founder of the Area 51 Research Center, a veritable walking encyclopedia of black world aerospace. Heartbreaking to see him in this state. It seems only yesterday he was climbing Tickaboo Peak and Freedom Ridge.

Ever visit the Research Center?

I never had the chance.

I haven't, but I corresponded with him and he was very patient and helpful with questions, even though he was moving on to other things at the time. Most of his latest work involves documenting ecological change.

I recall when Art initially had him on thinking that he was going to interview the single-n Campbell of "Wichita Lineman," wrecking-crew, etc fame. But though I wish Art would've interviewed Glen I enjoyed the interview with Glenn! An interesting character to say the least and I'm sad to see his condition but I'm sure he will handle it well. Odd that both Glen/nns seem to have alerted that their health was soon going to get bad and went public with that.

Actor  Roger Perry passed away on Friday 07/13/2018.
He was the guest star in the classic Star Trek episode "Tomorrow Is Yesterday," as Captain John Christopher where the Enterprise accidentally traveled back in time to the 1960s.

My buddy, Michael G.

He wasn't a real celeb, but he was to me. And also to the many hundreds of people who were lucky enough to know him. Initial reactions to meeting Mike usually ran something like this- first he'd scare you with his physical appearance, kind of like a gnarley tatted caveman with one eye looking at you and the other looking off to the side like he's seeing your aura. Then he'd intrigue you with his sharp mind and wit. Then you'd end up loving him. He was a textbook case of how you can choose the freedom to decide to be who you need to be as you become more self aware. He did prison time for offing a dude with a knife who was beating a woman. In the penitentiary he became an Aryan Brotherhood member with the tats and all- full back swastika, teardrop on his face, and the words Speedy McGreedy on his neck. Following his release he ended up at a rainbow gathering where he converted to a non tweeker, loving and peaceful dude. He ended up doing security for the Grateful
Dead for several years and was widely known as Rainbow Mike, or Handsome- a tribute to his intimidating looks. When I met him he was still a pretty hard drinker but after introducing him to sweat and tipi ceremonies he left that behind as well. He eventually met a beautiful woman and they loved each other so much they were like one thing. I performed their wedding ceremony on an outdoor altar with two Harleys and a mixed posse of hardcore bikers with colors, tie dyed hippies, and absolutely normal church folks. Mike loved everybody and he had a way of bringing us all together as one eclectic tribe. A couple of years back he was diagnosed with lung cancer so we flew him and his wife here to California and put him through the rigors of two Native American Church healing ceremonies, which were immediately followed by surgery back in his home state.  I believe that those prayers and his will to live contributed to his complete remission as he was pronounced cancer free 6 months ago. During one of the ceremonies he promised to all of us that he refused to let cancer take him out. He was true to his word. A few days ago he had a freak accident by which he fell and broke his neck. We can hardly believe it as Mike was one of the strongest, most indestructible appearing men I've ever met. As my son said- He was made of steel. But even steel breaks I guess. Now I'm getting ready to board a plane to Montana as his widow has asked me to lead the ceremony/celebration for one of the most amazing people I've ever known.

He called me just over a week ago and we had a long talk about friends and family and this brief opportunity we're given to explore, learn, and love. I'm so glad I had the presence of mind to tell him how much I love and appreciate him just before we ended the call. Life is delicate no matter how strong you are. It's a good thing to remember.

"Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace."

"“I started seeing a psychiatrist, started taking Lamictal and Seroquel, which stabilized me. It wasn’t easy. I messed up a few more times, getting drunk, because I was scared about having a hysterectomy. But there’s no other way to deal with cancer except fighting back aggressively. I became a warrior. I ended the pity party and grew up, do or die.”

As time went on, Janus was able to find treatments that were effective in managing her mood and psychotic symptoms. Janus says the combination of medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy has been effective for her. "

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/brick-brick/201509/jill-janus-new-beginning

"In addition to cognitive-behavioral therapy, Janus has been taking a holistic approach that includes the use of vitamins and dietary supplements. “Cognitive behavioral therapy is a great tool to gain self-control and avoid bad situations — mostly violent outbursts. I also began exercising at a gym this year, which is amazing for my moods.  And I changed my diet with the help of a naturopath. He prescribed supplements, which include L-Theanine, pure fish oil, homeopathic remedies, Pulsatilla 1M and Sepia 1M. I also use tincture to ease anxiety in my ‘danger zone’ between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., a mixture of equal parts Melissa officinalis, Scutellaria and Kalmerite glycerite.”"

He and his first wife had accumulated a good bit of property in northeast Florida.  The parcels were litigated over for years. I'm not sure how they got their money, but do remember that she was seriously hurt in an automobile accident before he dumped her.

Sen. John McCain was so much more than a celebrity. He was truly a great American. I rarely agreed with his politics but always respected him and appreciated his service and sacrifices to our country. And his intelligence, integrity and sense of humor. When men of honor are so desperately needed, we may never see his like again

"... We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment and hatred and violence in all the corners of the globe. We weaken it when we hide behind walls, rather than tear them down, when we doubt the power of our ideals, rather than trust them to be the great force for change they have always been, ..."

Burt, Dean, The girl's name slips my mind at the moment - but a big starlet - Sammy, and holy shit - is that  Earnest (Borgnine) ?
Why should I know that scene and that movie ?

Thanks for the pic.     :)
The woman is actress Shirley MacLaine, who at age 84 is now the only one still alive in that photo.
The man on the end is Frank Sinatra.

Scott Wilson, who played the farmer Hershel on the television series The Walking Dead, died yesterday at the age of 76.  Walking Dead fans will remember him as the wise, white bearded man who gave Rick Grimes and his followers sanctuary after they fled from a walking dead filled Atlanta, Georgia.  Hershel was a peaceful and wise owner of a large farm out in the country and despite the fact that he had a barnful of walking dead creatures (his family members and close friends) he did manage to instill in Rick and gang that there was more to life than just going out there and killing living and nonliving human beings.  Then the evil Governor (the series first major villain) captured Hershel and beheaded him, a major bummer and I almost stopped watching the show but I'm glad that I didn't because The Walking Dead is a super interesting, life afferming television show and while there is lots of blood and gore, there is also a wonderful sense of the gift of life exhibited.  I have really enjoyed this series over the last eight years.  Oddly enough, Hershel returns in season nine of the show (starting today if you want to watch it on AMC with all the commercials.) but, from what I've read, he is seen as a hallucination of a dying Rick Grimes.  Yup, Rick dying is going to be a major obstacle in my continuing with the series but what the hell, I'll probably keep watching it.

By the way, Scott starred in some other top flight movies such as In Cold Blood (the vicious killer Dick) The Great Gatsby, The Right Stuff, Pearl Harbor, and G.I. Jane, just to mention a few.

I'm wondering if the Hedgehog called it in immediately or if he saw an opportunity  and did the unthinkable.  Well, since this guy allegedly sucked his own  dick on film, is anything really unthinkable?

What an incredible run Stan Lee had. The end of an era. One of Stan Lee's recent and last film appearances will be in Starship Farragut's finale film "Homecoming" which is still in post production. I am sure the role in Starship Farragut (a TOS fan film series) didn't pay much so he did that out of a love for the craft.

Wow.  Didn't know Sartain was on Hee Haw.  He and Gary Busey did a small radio/television segment in the Tulsa area back in the early 70's.  Sad news about Clark.  I got to see him one at the Neewollah Festival in Independence Kansas around 15 years ago or so.  I took a group of people with developmental disabilities (my job at the time) to the parade and the music show later that night.  I remember complaining to my supervisor about the prospect of having to sit through a country music show.  I profusely apologized the following Monday.  Roy and the others put On one hell of a show.  An insanely talented entertainer. RIP.

At this point,Glenn sat in Clarke's lap, joking how they only had one guitar.
The two both played on an single instrument, and they played the real lyrics to"Day Dream Believer":
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"If i had the wings
Of an blu-bird as she sings
That five o'clock alarm would never ring
So wake up sleepy Gene
And tell me is there any scene
For an Day-Dream Believer
And an old closet queen
Old Closet Queen"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After this,Johnny Carson was speechless!
He gulped visibly and went on,while there was scattered,un-certain applause from the alleged studio audience.
The two really stopped the show!!
Ah,those were the days of semi-live television...

Bush Sr. still carrying on the Thousand Points of Light nonsense today when he commented about the death of Houston Texans owner Bob McNair.

Bob McNair wasn’t just the brightest Point of Light in Houston; he was one of the kindest and most generous people anywhere. Nobody cared — or helped people — more, and that’s just one of the reasons I will always be proud Bob was my good friend. He was simply The Best. My most sincere condolences and family love go to Janice and her wonderful family

Ricky Jay, the master magician and frequent actor in David Mamet films died Saturday at the age of 70.

From the work I have seen he was always great. His monologues were always powerful.

He also narrated what is probably my favorite movie of all time. See pic attachment.

I really liked House of Games.

The female actor in this movie also played Anne Strieber in Communion. She was actually married to David Mamet for a couple of decades.

I really liked House of Games.

“Oh, you're a bad pony, and I' m not gonna bet on you.”

One of my favorite lines from one of my all-time favorite movies, House of Games (delivered by Joe Mantegna, not by Mr. Ricky Jay—who was perfect in his supporting role as George, the con-man poker player).

“Asked about duplicity, Mr. Jay, argued: ‘You wouldn’t want to live in a world where you couldn’t be conned. Because it would mean you’re living in a world where you never trusted anyone or anything.’”  (from NYT obit, 11/25/18)

R.I.P.  Ricky Jay.
A very interesting man.

Bush Sr. still carrying on the Thousand Points of Light nonsense today when he commented about the death of Houston Texans owner Bob McNair.

I never even heard of the Texans.  I thought Houston still had the Oilers. That tells you how much I follow football. :-[  Anyway, RIP.

Really need to watch the film, The Heart is A Lonely Hunter, from '68 that brought her a lot of accolades.  Of course, I remember her from the Eastwood films.  She was also in a movie that was remade recently with Keanu Reeves as Knock, Knock.  RIP, Miss Locke.

Some bad lifestyle choices and decisions, apparently.  Condolences to the wife and daughter especially.  You would think a television personality in one of the country's biggest markets would "party," or whatever, in a place rather than a Days Inn in the middle of the day with some unreported male.

Sadly that was an apparent suicide. Apparently she had a lasic surgery that went wrong and had lots of pain and eye problems, or something.  It doesn't take much to read into this "accidental overdose," in the middle of the afternoon, an "unidentified male" reports it, Hollywood, Days Inn (though he lives in area,) and wife and child somewhere else even though schools are shut down for the Holidays and so likely they would be at home.

Choices. And bad, questionable ones. I feel bad for the wife and, worse, daughter. Jeez, as Norry might say. I hope he had, or the station had, a good policy for him that covers such behavior resulting in death. Or, better yet, contains some "Hollywood rider" that covers it without releasing details to the wife and daughter.

By advising us to hold stocks long term and not to try and outguess the market. (That, plus index funds over mutual funds.)  I will miss John, but he had a good run of 89 years.  I saw on the MSNBC channel that he a number of heart attacks starting in his forties, but that he had a heart transplant in his sixties, and he seemed pretty happy with it.

Frankly, I've seen an interview that she did and she looked like she was answering questions about her 105th birthday.  Head down, unable to hold her head up, lifts her head to start speaking and it falls again.

I think, if Trump wants a lasting impact and some legacy, all government employees and politicians, no matter what their status or stature, should pass a fucking test to be able to handle themselves.  Deadweight, a prequel.

RIP Lyndon LaRouche.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/13/obituaries/lyndon-larouche-dead.html

Amen. :'(

"Mr. LaRouche was at the apex of his power in the mid-1980s, when he moved his headquarters to a large rented estate in Northern Virginia, in Round Hill, outside Leesburg. When neighbors wondered aloud why he had turned the estate into an armed camp, rigged with electronic security and patrolled by men with semiautomatic rifles, Mr. LaRouche went on the attack. He said that the Leesburg Garden Club was “a nest of Soviet fellow travelers.”

Ha! It is a twisted tale and complected relationship. I think, maybe, it comes down to which royalty is the ultimate enemy: Venetian banking dynasties or the Queen? Even though Fritz can explain how they became one in the same via bloodlines and inter-marriages.

Last night's C2C was good.  I heard the space guy twice because, at 2 a.m., the downpour was incredibly loud and the flooded courtyard was splashing up a storm.

Incredible that it lasted as long as it did!

Sad.  I often would go back to listen to his final reboot, including his final show in which he explained that the business model for podcasting wasn't working out with supporting his staff.

I listened to him on weekends in the late 80s through the early 90s when I spent a lot of time on the road in the Midwest.

A plane crash couldn't keep him off the air...  Another great one lost.

Obsessing over Bruce Williams's death... Mainly because I can't obsess over the death of the lady who's (RIP Ramona) recordings I'm trying to restore and polish up for her memorial service. Another brain tumor.  Wanna guess, another heavy cell phone user...

Seems Bruce was losing his edge and the comments to his column were attacking him (a la Art & BungGag)

In Duane's place, I nominate Don Henley.

There must be a story there. I think that there's a song there too.

I'm still waiting for Don Henley to die...  Rule of 3?

I'm not sure about that. Glen Frey and Joe Walsh are still with us, and I'm afraid to read your next reply.  ;)

Glenn Frey died already.  Him and Don Henley are turds for firing Don Felder. Joe Walsh puts up with it because he's just an employee and likes the money...

The great bass trombonist Phil Teele died. He was first call with the LA local and played on many movie scores - The Godfather, Patton,  the Planet of the Apes movies, Die Hard 1&2, many of the Star Trek movies, Men in Black, Mars Attacks, and many, many more. He also played in jazz big bands and recorded tracks that were more experimental, such as Low and Outside.

NOW WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO BUY MY VACUUM CLEANER BAGS? - My grandmother... if this was 1979.
This could be a pivotal time to switch to bagless…  Bissel has a great 7 pound one for $40 at Walmart if you have small enough hands to re-insert the plastic cup.  Motorized brush & everything.  Going strong over a year.  But don't buy the 14 pound one because it has issues.

Are you referring to the Mandela Romantics and Mandela Rush? I think that both bands were started by Stevie Nicks, who was in Heart, before she joined Fleetwood Mac, a band that evolved into Steely Dan, which was largely comprised of former members of the Doobie Brothers before that group changed its name to the Steve Miller Band, who we now know as Cheap Trick (when they're not touring as Meatloaf), and I'm sure you recall their biggest hit, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", a song covered by Tom Petty in 2018.

They're talking about her on my local morning news. Apparently, she was one of the first, if not the first, restauranteurs to allow dogs in their establishment.

They also showed a picture she released on her 97th birthday, although it was only of her face, she seemed very chipper.

The story is that she got sick soon after her birthday party. How much you want to bet somebody gave a bug to her at the party?  I've had a long-standing rule, if me or my kids are sick, no parties (especially for the old people in our family).

Hope not, but it happens too often.

Jeremy Irons met the real Claus von Bülow three years after the release of the film. Irons commented "he didn't tell me anything I didn't already know." Irons recalled that von Bulow asked him if he was aware that the real Alan M. Dershowitz was (at the time) representing Leona Helmsley and Mike Tyson. Irons replied that he was aware of that, to which von Bulow quipped: "I don't suppose you've been asked to play either of them, have you?"

I really liked Dr. John's album Babylon when it was first released back in 1968. Though I was careful not to show my friends that Sonny and Cher's names were printed on the back of it.  (Actually they didn't appear on the album.  They did give Dr. John their left over studio time though, and that helped him make the album.)

Billy Drago, one of my favorite movie 'bad guys' has died at the age of 73.  Billy starred in a lot of movie and television shows.  I really liked him in the Chuck Norris movie “Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection” as drug lord Ramon Cota.  RIP, Billy.

From the Dallas News

Rick Perry: Now that Ross Perot is gone, I can tell this story

Rick Perry, Contributor
This week, the nation remembers Ross Perot for his success in business, his two independent White House bids and his no-nonsense, straight Texas talk. His love of country, larger-than-life personality and generosity are all part of his legacy that will live on. But there is another little-known part of the life of Ross Perot that should be told now that he is gone. He was a tireless, but private, supporter of our wounded veterans.
During my time as governor of this great state, I had the honor and privilege of knowing countless warriors who stepped forward to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan and returned home with horrific wounds of war. U.S. Army Cpl. Alan Babin Jr. is one such hero.
While serving in Iraq in 2003 as a medic in the 82nd Airborne, Alan was shot in the abdomen while tending to a fallen comrade. While Alan survived his injury, he faced a long and difficult road to recovery, complicated by the onset of meningitis and a stroke-induced coma that left him confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
On the one-year anniversary of his wounding, I joined Alan and his family for a small gathering. He was still in very bad shape, neurologically and physically incapacitated. When I asked his mother, Rosie,  what I could do to help, she said she was eager to get him out of the hospital and back home, but struggling with the prospect of transporting Alan to his many medical visits.
I knew there was one person to call: Ross Perot. What happened next still amazes me to this day. The next morning, Ross personally called Rosie and made arrangements for his plane to pick up the Babins in Austin and fly them to Dallas where Alan could be seen by leading neurologists at Zale Lipshy University Hospital.
When the hospital elevators opened, Ross was standing there to meet Alan personally and ensure that he got the best of care. Later that day, Rosie was handed a key to a hotel room across the street so she could be close to Alan throughout his extended stay.
It didn't stop there.
When Rosie returned to the family home in Round Rock for her daughter's prom, Ross visited privately with Alan to sit with him and make sure he wasn't alone.

Ross Perot visits wounded veteran Alan Babin. (Rosie Babin)
After three weeks in Dallas, Alan and Rosie returned home to Austin on Ross' plane. When they arrived home, a fully customized luxury conversion van equipped with a wheelchair lift was waiting for them in their driveway.
Later when they spoke, Ross told Rosie two things: "One phone call is all you ever need to make if you need anything. Now, I want you to focus on Alan." And that is exactly what happened.
In 2005, when Alan needed to return to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Ross flew the Babins to Washington, D.C., and arranged for a private ambulance to pick him up on the tarmac and transport him to the hospital.
Today, Alan and his parents live together in a specially adapted smarthome provided by the generosity of another great champion of our wounded warriors, Gary Sinise. Thanks to the support of patriots like Gary and Ross, Alan has progressed in his limited physical ability to become an accomplished adaptive skier, hand cyclist and golfer.
Over the years, Rosie has come to call those who rushed to Alan's aid "Alan's Angels," but the title "Big Angel" is and will forever be reserved for Ross Perot.
While alive, Ross would have shunned any effort to grant him credit for his support of Alan and the untold others he quietly helped through unimaginably challenging times. But now that he is gone, everyone should know the quality of the man that our state, our nation and our wounded veterans have lost.
God bless Ross Perot.
Rick Perry is the former governor of Texas.

What a cousin to have and what an awful affliction to die from.

Reading up on his story, it sounds like he held it together, at least mentally, pretty much until the last couple of weeks. I'm sure his family appreciated that.

Actually a good move for him getting out of Los Angeles. I looked up his neighborhood and, while not in The Lakes region, it's still in a nice community of Summerlin. Great library there, lots of parks, lots of culture.  I see the move was in March, he was still well enough to sing then.

I knew of London, but never knew of him by name.  Sounds like a level dude.  And no...  Nikki Sixx wasn't a skilled musician, just did what it took.  All those MIT pricks were jealous 😁

@Bart Ell, doncha know that Huff is already busy talking with Jeffrey Epstein via his fake ghostbox... claiming Epstein confessed to everything.  Hell would have frozen over twice before Epstein would have confessed, whether while still alive or in spirit. He was just not that kind of sociopathic personality to ever confess for any reason in any way other than to get himself a cheapo easy-out deal.

I don't think you can get lower than Huff, it wouldn't be easy to do.  :P

Jessi was trying to break a speed record in a "jet-powered land-speed car" that she'd previously driven to 483mph...

There's also been confusion about her age. I've seen 36 and 39. 🤷

I know me my Beverly Hills 90210, who is this guy?

I used to take young Japanese ladies on the 90210 tour through Pasadena, by the Spelling house (I had a friend who was a PA to Mr. Spelling and got me access a couple of times to the driveway, not inside the house or even close). We would also go by the beach house...

It is on those tours that I learned that a single meal from Barney's Beanery could feed four 25 year old women from the Land of the Rising Sun.  Bob Newhart used to walk his dog at that park near the Spelling mansion.  I only saw him once oh, that was cool.

Eh, nevermind.

I liked DS9. All except the alternate universe episodes. But I feel the same way about Voyager and TNG. The alternate universe and the holodeck episodes were just ways for the writers to be lazy and not have to follow the story arc. I guess that is why I think Enterprise is my favorite.

I don't where the time has gone...
Glad I'm not the only one that feels it.  Something changed hard at 50.  Up to then, I could relate to young people until I was almost 50.  But now there is a huge generation gap.

And it seems like yesterday I learned a childhood friend was getting her master's in psychology.  She just retired after 25 years working for the prison system.  I didn't even know.  I still think of her as a graduate student.  OMG.

I'm a great-aunt now.

In my 40s, people didn't notice me because I reminded them of their parents, or who has use for a matron anyway.  But if you think that's bad, 50 is even worse because not only do they have no use for me, but I'm also in their way.  They actually aim to physically push past me, and sometimes there are collisions when walking, even though I look in the direction I'm going so everyone knows which way I'm headed.  But they have no time for analyzing body language.  They just bowl you over.  I hope I never did that when I was young.

I need to move to a retirement community ASAP.  Aging would be so much easier to handle without kids slamming into me.  Maybe I would be one of the young ones.  I hear Scottsdale is nice...

I turn 73 in December, work 3 days a week in the state headquarters for two veterans organizations that help our vets and service connected disabled vets get the benefits they are entitled to and earned by their service, webmaster two sites, am editor and creator of 3 state newsletters/newspapers, travel for the VSOs I work for, and then take care of home and family, plus enjoy our college and pro football teams and make a couple or more fun week long trips to Orlando, Texas, and such.

My list of health problems rival Falkie and I may have to do some things slower, but I’ve never had to worry about younger ones or middle aged folks running me over. And at my age, we’ve earned the right to say what we want and to hell with those who think otherwise.

Why am I relating all of this? Because it all comes down to our attitude about what we want our lives to be and not accepting less. 50’s are a great age to be...embrace the time, utilize it to the fullest. It is all in your hands. To me, 50 year olds are still kids (or anyone under 65)...so, kiddies, you still got a lot of life left to live. Go for it.

Kim Shattuck

It's been 21 months or so since I last talked with Kim.  She agreed that I can't sing.  (I gave her and and a bandmate from Pandoras a demo for a hopeful reunion album, hoping that its Monkees-like vibe would appeal to the Monkees fans in the band.)

I remember her off color comments, comments about stained panties and a flabby ass.  She was a cool girl rocker, she could dish it out and she could take it.  Except when you brought up the Pixies.  She was pretty resilient but I think she got short-changed or treated like shit by them.

ALS took her.  She didn't say shit about it a couple of months after her diagnosis.  Pandoras, Muffs, Pixies.  I was encouraging her to do a Pandoras supergirlgroup reunion. They we're having a lot of fun playing people's backyard parties.

This video is from a short time before her diagnosis. The record was Derrick Anderson's, he was the touring bassist for The Bangles until a couple of years ago.  "The girls" helped him out on his solo record and agreed to do the video for it as well.  Kim is on the far right, in the grey skirt, jumping around, goofing on Pete Townsend a bit.

Goodnight Gidget, cowbellbongos dude.

Fun times...

ALS sucks. I fear that diagnosis almost as much as I fear burning to death.

Jessye Norman, in NYC on Monday, age 74. Transcendant operatic voice, did spirituals... jazz... everything. Another musical light in my life has gone dark. Sigh.

I'm not going to pull a Heather because I don't know and I can only surmise knowing how lively she was , I hope she went out on her own terms...  I will and I have directives making sure I'll go out on my terms if I'm unable to go out on my terms on my own.

I loved that video!  Today's singers can't pull that off nowadays.  Between egos, publishing, rights and labels, it just won't happen with such skilled performers.  Hacks, yes, maybe...

I also love the sequins burning the kinescope.  In addition to potentially causing epileptic seizures, I can go X-Files on this and think that some secret braille code is being flashed across the screen...

Oh, and I would be remiss if I don't mention this...  I have impure thoughts seeing Diahann Carroll there... She remained hot into the 2000s.

I don’t think that’s kinescope. It looks more like quad videotape. The early television camera tubes didn’t have a very large contrast range.

In this modern world of auto tune and electronics, why worry about singing ability? Go for tits and ass, which can also be enhanced.

I didn't think of that, maybe because I associate streaks with the burn.  I wonder if the show's costumers thought about that knowing what the on screen effect was....

PS, give me Ms. Carroll over any new whore any day...

Apparently he had that name since he was a kid, it's not just a stage name!  I don't know if it was a nickname as a kid or a birth name but there were other "Rip"s in his family. Hahaha.

Actually Dennis' body was found buried under a pile of clothes and blankets in a room of his house.  There was a live in handyman who did the deed and he was going to be brought to trial but has since been declared unfit for trial.

Louisiana native, author Ernest Gaines died today at age 86. He has been one of my favorite authors all my grown up life. He was actually born on a plantation not far from the town I was born in. I met him in person at a book signing for his novel “A Lesson Before Dying”. He took the time to talk with each of us hometown folks. An amazing man and great loss to the literary world.

@Jayzelady….  May he rest in peace.  It is always sad to loose a favorite author.  I could have gone to a book signing by Edward Abbey but for some reason or other, I talked myself out of going.  Been kicking myself ever since.
