Time zones.

They are annoying.
And Day Lighting Savings/Summer time. Why don't we, or at least the civilized world, just go to one time. Who cares if the "clock" says it is a certain number and it is light out, or dark? This would eliminate issues related to flights, conference calls, television/radio programming and so on. Get rid of Time Zones, get rid of time changes due to season (which aren't followed in all place or start/end at different dates.)

Wow. What a lackluster way to kick it off ;D At least Onan kicked his off with a bad visit to a minimart gas station.

Look in the new categories thread. IIIIII was the first to talk about restarting the thread. I was not annoyed at the time so I was unable to start it with anything of substance. Perhaps AL wasn't annoyed when HE mentioned it and that might explain why he didn't start it...?

Either way, I'm now annoyed that this exists.

I will. I wanted to faciltate others to start/comment as some of my threads, like the ones about illegals, go dead (like victims of same.) I also had an annoying on-going story of incidents, still growing, of gas station marts.

I wonder how they rung up these transactions.  Like, was it on an EBT card like a debit transaction, the way EBT works at grocers.  Just seeing the name of a bar on transactions would be a total red flag to whoever audits the ticker tapes or EBT reports.  That could have been what started the investigation.  Are people really that stupid??

Every major popular spectator sport in this country has been utterly ruined.  MLB, NBA, NFL, all the fun removed, all now completely unwatchable.  For a variety of reasons, some common to all the sports, some not.

I'm actually glad.  Time freed up, and entertainment dollars available to be spent elsewhere.

Pollsters, especially robocalls but even actual people who call you.
1) who actually would answer a total stranger's random call with anything truthful, if indeed one is stupid enough to answer?
2 who else, if in the mood to actually pick-up, purposely lies or fucks with them?
3) are people really so ignorant that they don't understand the concept of push-polls, misleading poll questions, and statistical manipulation (in the rare case where a poll attempts to be remotely scientific?)
4) Do these calls really work for the politicians, Parties, or "cause" who funds them? Or just a legal way of political patronage for family members, large donors, 'connected' companies, former staffers, etc?

Geez, I feel like I'm getting old. Complaining about some loud music. I can't verify where from but a long way away someone having a good party- with shitty music. Then again, all I can here is the bass track. So, arguably, it might be a good time. But from my perspective. Shitty loud bass in an urban or possibly Mexican style or mix thereof. Hard to tell though since only bass I can identify, and not with any precision. Seems to be emanating from across the creek in another neighborhood even. I seriously doubt (due to direction and distance) that it is F1 concert, first random thought I had, but absurd due to aforementioned direction/distance (Bruno or Spears, I forget who is on tonight) but, maybe in spirit. Annoying. But I hope they are having fun. Done same (with better music, though.) So no calling cops or bitching, too much.

One of my friends last week informed me that several new letters have been added to the LBGTQ thing.
LBGTQIA

Nope I'm out. This is beyond ridiculous. Three categories. Gay - Straight - Bi.
My friend told me because as a teacher they had a meeting and gave everyone a double sided sheet on all of the possible genders and identities. Apparently someone dared to say this was over the top and was shouted down. SMH - do we really need to define this down to the last detail? Also what's it doing in high school? FFS most people don't know who they are in high school and it can dramatically from year to year. Now we have labels. I'm going to start identifying as an otter.

One of my friends last week informed me that several new letters have been added to the LBGTQ thing.
LBGTQIA

Nope I'm out. This is beyond ridiculous. Three categories. Gay - Straight - Bi.

We are under a "boil water" notice and also not permitted to fill the pool, wash vehicles, or water outside because of the floods. We have too much water; so we can't use it. And why does the news and city need to add "wait for water to cool before drinking or using it?"  Is the average person that stupid that they would drinking boiling water or brushing their teeth with boiling water? Does "wait for boiling water to cool" really need to be told to people?

True, but even then most wait a bit, blow on it, cool it with milk or cream, etc. Now they announce that, so far, nothing has been found in the water but "just in case," and won't describe what contaminants they are worried about. For example boiling water won't get heavy metals out though if you distill I guess it would. I'm assuming they are talking organic contamination, giardia, E Coli, etc. They also say dogs and pets should be given boiling water. I call BS on this. Dogs drink directly from the creek, mud puddles, lake, etc. Why would some of the lake or runoff getting into the public water supply hurt them!

Bring back real stock cars. A Chevy has to be an actual Chevrolet, not a car of tomorrow. Remove the restrictor plates. Go back to Rockingham and North Wilksboro, etc.

Why are they even using restrictor plates? And enough with the car changes. NASCAR peaked in the 1990s, the reason is because the model was good and the fans were happy. NASCAR is just one of many who changed their whole thing up to please a certain type of "fan" who doesn't even exist. MLB and NHL have pulled this shit and people who grew up watching that are generally dissatisfied with those leagues these days for numerous reasons.

Every major popular spectator sport in this country has been utterly ruined.  MLB, NBA, NFL, all the fun removed, all now completely unwatchable.  For a variety of reasons, some common to all the sports, some not.

I never did follow the National Felon League but I can imagine it has been perversed like everything else. I saw some screenshots of some halftime shows, mostly because it is unavoidable online and in your face whether you follow any of that or not. One year it was that soulless cunthole Madonna halftime show and the stage floor and costume themes were not just subtle but all-out in your face Illuminati symbolism as if it was the new fashion that year. A couple years later it was some angry-looking Chewbacca type creature and some anti-cop demonstration. The face that this "woman" had on her was... fuck there are no words... I don't even know what in the hell I saw still shots of but it was over the top.

I wish this undeveloped narcissistic monster of intellectualism would wrap his car around a pole while simultaneously overdosing on hard exotic drugs. When I see this Canadian turd, I just want to play Dayglo Abortions even LOUDER. Canada used to produce good bands in the 70s and 80s and then Alantis Morrison and Justine Beaver came along and fucked everything up. Metric were good for 2 and half albums but even they became bland and generic. I am ashamed of all of the airheads from Canada, too many goofs without any integrity.

I don't like what NASCAR has become in recent years with rule changes and modification of points earnings. Worst of all is the mandatory stop/starts in the middle of races. What kind of fun is that? It is ugly.
Having grown up with many a Daytona 500 and Daytona Firecracker 400 race, I couldn't agree more. It's not one race anymore. The Stage 1/Stage 2/Final Stage stuff is bizarre. It's still somewhat exciting if you can get past the changes - except when your two favorites are out of the race after less than half of the first lap as happened in Kansas last Saturday due to an Allgaier moment :(

Spot on. I never understood this weird deal major sports leagues did to try to appeal to "new fans" or some other demographic, especially when you have a good thing going and making money. Sure you always want more customers but at the price of losing your loyal ones? And why sports can't be about sports but, as in every other aspect of entertainment or society, a place for politics and social-programming agendas. They won't even let us have our "bread and circuses" anymore but any game needs to be some message for a sexual agenda, some racial stuff, a dig against the country, or whatever.

They say we should vote but my County Voter site is down for a "security update" all day so you cannot find information. Meanwhile we are under a boil water notice because the same great City Council and infrastructure cannot  handle water issues. But, don't worry, our homeless are doing great and soon to get more housing and get a public toilet! Contract to clean is over 100K per annum. For a single toilet unit. And we are a sanctuary city, and illegals can likely handle drinking the water without boiling?

New developments that fuck up the drainage. I went out to dinner in a drizzle and returned to 3’ of water in the road. My truck was already in the driveway so there was nothing I could do to get it out. I moved it under the house I am staying at but now the water 💧 s up to the hubs and still rising. 6” more and I will lose my truck. The insurance company will never give me what it is worth. It’s a 2014 but only has 32k miles.

When the old goof course got rain it just shed gently into the bayou. Since they put in roads they totally screwed up the drainage and now if we get more than 1” of rain it floods the street.

Good luck. sucks, hope it stops rising! And truck is saved. Has it been raining there a lot also, I guess? I don't think our, well mainly Burnet Cty and rivers, don't empty to your area but further south.
It has been a weird time. Lots of rain. Rains it seems everyday, I think there was one or two nice days, but even then had at least drizzle at night for well over a month. And the floods, luckily not here, and the "boil water" stuff which has to be killing local places like coffee shops etc. Even places that make margin on fountain drinks etc. HEB has been good, as always, and trucked in a crapload of bottled water pretty quickly as shelves everywhere empty. I won't name names but insurance companies differ. Some claims during Harvey were done QUICK but others didn't like pictures or your word (or news footage), wanted to view vehicle his reply "well if you got a boat I'll show you, you might want to bring a mask because they still both under water."

A great idea to move west or just rural....if you can afford to out-bid all the Hollywood, East Coast, Silicon Valley, Seattle, and even Chinese folks buying up places as bolt-holes or just because they want to get rid of the urban, socialist paradises they created.

Ha. Assuming one still wants to live in the US I'm told Upstate New York cities, urban Detroit, are about the only "deals" left. Sometimes the tax authorities even give you stuff if you move there and rehab the house or facility. Farmland areas and large ranches/land are increasingly "out" due to foreign buyers and the aforementioned rich buyers fleeing their socialist, highly taxed areas. I think there also is desert areas some places- but even there due increasingly being priced out due to good tax laws, lawsuit/bankruptcy shields, and even the price of sand. Yes, sand, if good, a big commodity for fracking and even beaches, those are now $$.

Christmas is on its way and I love it!

What I don't love is that my wife never, ever sticks to our agreed limit to spend on each other. Last few years I've gone a few hundred over the set limit because I know she most certainly won't honor the agreement and I just want to keep up. I'd be happy just enjoying the holiday music, food, and all the other jolliness (and so would she) but she's a serious gift giver and does very well for herself but it's all so unnecessary.

Kyting (insult battles) was practiced in both England and Scotland before and after the Norman Conquest, and some experts theorized that both gospel and rap started in the latter country. Luckily, the Geneva Conventions ban bagpiping in rap.

Cover band had a one set gig tonight, customer wanted a mixed set of classic rock and country. Our third song was a Waylon song and I'll include the studio recording we did. Anyways after the song this ditsy ass chick on the floor asked us to "play some country"  WTF?? How can you get more country than Waylon?!?!  Turns out she wanted some of that new ballcap monster truck stripper pole type country that has Waylon puking in his grave. What a despicable uneducated low frequency flatline bitch was she!  I'm not huge country guy but don't knock Waylon.

Turns out I won't include a recording due to attachment limitations. @Bart Ell  smaller mp3's should be considered as an acceptable sized file. Perhaps?

I’ve always found it amazing that Pabst is so popular.

In recent years they marketed it to hipsters etc. Like go "old school," dive bar vibe. Sort of how records are now popular again and you see the kids wearing a fedora. Other than that the only appeal was the cheapness and brand loyalty in certain regions by "working class" folks.  There have been several ownership changes over the recent decades but a consortium, basically, bought up a lot of regional, traditional brands and contracted brewing them to serve those regional markets where brand loyalty was strong. Then Pabst bought them out and continued the tradition. So, Lonestar, PBR, Natty Bo, Olympia, Old Style, etc still existed in those markets but not brewed by the original companies.

In the craft beer era it became the cheap option in the bar that wasn't Bud, Miller, etc.

I spent 6 months in China in 1986, mostly just travelling around.  The handful of people whose homes I visited, small stores, etc, often had dilapidated little cabinets where they kept and displayed their dusty treasures.  One never knew what sorts of things people would have in them.

One day, in some town the middle of nowhere, I went inside a small store to hopefully get something to drink.  Tucked away behind the counter, and in it's shadow, was one of these old looking display cabinets.

The store didn't have lights on, or much sunlight, and while I was drinking my orange soda - every town made their own beer, their own jars of yogurt, and their own orange soda, and if you bought any you had to drink or eat it right there because they wouldn't let you take the bottle or jar with you - I looked to see what he had in his cabinet.

Staring at it, I saw there was an ancient unopened bottle of beer in there.  Covered with dust, stuck in the back, at some point I realized it was what must have been a decades old bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon, the only non-Chinese beer I saw on that trip.

I was shocked to see it, after months of nothing but Chinese goods.  I really was just curious about it (Pabst, really?) - where he got it, how old was it, just look at it, but no dice - I think he thought I wanted to drink it.

Nice write up PB.. I was in China in 1985, being 6ft 3 inches with bright red hair. I  was mobbed many times, being the first westerner many of them ever saw. Amazing time to visit when they were still riding bicycles for transportation in the large cities. I remember their first TVs were their proudest possession.
The Public service commercials on TV about not drinking the last remains of empty soda bottles found in a ditch and Chinese operas were standard fare.

In 1985 the first American Fast Food restaurant opened in Tiananmen Square. A Kentucky Fried Chicken.

They probably were all excited seeing me, thinking  I was an "Advanced Man" Ronald McDonald. My sole brush with fame.

When traveling abroad its interesting to try a McDonald's burgers. In Australia they taste weird like they use kangaroo meat. In Poland because they have much higher restaurant food standards,  they are "forced " to use a better grade of beef to compete.

Quotations on memes, quotations on posters, or quotations in general, that aren't sourced. Just so-and-so said/wrote this: "xxxxxxxx."

Some of them are inspiring, some funny, cause self-reflection, or politically motivate but so many quotes are fake, attributed incorrectly, or parsed so that the original meaning is different than what was intended by the author.  And the interwebs is so bad now for researching things it is hard to find places that correctly investigate and attribute/cite the quotes-- you just get site after site saying the same snipped quote with no citation. So you get "fake quotes," or, at least, quotes that you can't be sure aren't fake.

I believe you really have to pay for a good can opener.  No less than $6 in the west and probably closer to $9.  I wonder what would happen if you took one of those blasted fail cans and set it in an electric can opener.  Would it resolve that problem can?  I don't like electric can openers but it's an idea, and there are some new innovations in them.

Speaking of can openers, remember the simple lever bottle openers, with a sharp end and a smooth end?  Save those, because instead of hammering on a tight bottle or can, you can use leverage by setting the smooth end just under the stubborn lid and slightly pry it to release the vacuum.  It is very graceful and required no strength at all.  I wish everyone would do it.

Just like I wish everyone would grab a grocery cart gently.  It really doesn't take any more time to pull the cart out & pause so the bars don't clang down.  It can be a near-silent process.  And actually it requires less arm strength.  All day, every time.  Unbelievable that nobody seems to know this.  Albeit, pushing them in to put them away does have to be noisy.

I refuse to invest in a different can opener, I like the anger and frustration that the cheapo shitty ones bring to the surface. Bottle openers however are a different story and I have many of them mounted to the fence perimeter outside not to mention a few in the house and on my main keychain. I have an opener mounted to every amp I gig with because ya' never know. But my favorite one is this..  never fails!

Ahh yes the CC+ Art sounds great over that thing 8)  I've had it since Christmas 04, still in mint condition. Love it!  But what drives it is not local radio but rather the signal it receives from the C-Crane FM Transmitter that is connected to my main house computer. I strongly believe in jumpsuits in jails.  Any inmate who is being transported by officers should be told to put on a jumpsuit.  To alleviate the inmate's own possible fears of abuse.  And they all should be wearing jumpsuits anyhow.  With as many serious venereal diseases as there are, including AIDS and hepatitis, I am shocked that all inmates nationwide aren't required to wear jumpsuits.  There could be sleeveless ones, ones that are cut off for summer, etc...

I don't believe in prisons.  If someone has done something so horrible they have to be locked away from society, they should just be shot.  Lessor offenses can be handled with fines and work service.

See, no need for jumpsuits or anything else we've been spending on these ass-wipes.

It's not to save the money, that's just a side benefit.

Look in the paper every day and see all the horrific crimes committed.  Imagine the lives devastated.  Why should we keep these filth alive after we catch them and ensure we have the right person?

It's that last part that the left will harp on. But frankly career criminals deserve only a quick lethal injection and they can meet the Creator and explain why things just never worked out for them.

I don't know how many strikes you consider "career" but I am open to negotiation! ;D

How about executing murderers by the same method they used to murder? Cut throats, strangulation, shooting so the murderer slowly bleeds out. Chain Osama bin Laden in a building and detonate it.

@Walks_At_Night

My Airbnb guests that take the time to sign the guestbook with warm wishes and wonderful compliments on the house but then make off with the customized branded pens we had made for the guestbook desk.  I have now taken measures to stop them. Unless they cut that little chain in which case we will ding them in the security deposit and make mention of it in our review.

Other guests who leave things behind like very expensive shoes and other clothing. Guests have forgotton everything from pricey perfumes to earbuds and then messaging us to ask if we can ship the items to them.
Faaawk That!!

Weirdest item was a wrapped Christmas gift. They left a great review but never made mention of the gift, nor did they respond to us when we offered to send it to them. Two months later I opened the gift addressed to, Ben. It was an Old Spice box containing every item Old Spice offers. Alot of stuff really. Needless to say I was an Old Spice guy for about eight months.

It's part of a larger trend. Some experts claim that people aren't really adults until their middle twenties after their brains fully mature, which may explain the rise of Ocasio-Cortez.

How come working class people have to pay about 300% interest on a 2 week payday loan but employers borrow all their employees wages for 2 weeks and don't pay us any interest at all?  The Bible says wages should be paid the day they are earned, not 2 weeks later or at the end of the month!  A company of 100 people who make $160/day potentially earns about $16,000 in interest on the employee wages each pay cycle.  If they split that among the employees whose money it actually is, each employee would come home with about $160 more per month.

And if the IRS would stop borrowing money all year interest free, then low income workers could bring home $20-50 more per month.  The IRS does not pay interest on the money workers lend it, just like employers don't pay interest on the money workers earn, but they borrow for up to 14 days (or a month) each cycle.  We have to pay interest on all loans, including short term ones, but employers and government pretty much don't have to pay interest on our money?

why should they?
i mean that in the sense that our govt cant follow its founding document why should it pay interest on money taken from our paychecks (although it charges interest if you are late paying them what they deem to be owed).

That money is better used to invest in the capitalization of the company and servicing whatever debt it has. Companies are not here to be exclusively employee owned pay day turn-styles. That's neo-socialism. :-\

You may not be aware but...the IRS is not a governmental entity, it is a PRIVATE company set up for the express enrichment of our Globalist Yuro-banksters, just like the Fed.

And if they got paid daily then a payday loan would become a payhour loan and the dummies would still be using them.

The interest (a fee, usually $15 per $100 borrowed) is only paid once.  Unlike a small purchase you buy on a credit card, where you pay the interest over & over again, unless you pay the balance in full.  A lot of Americans have credit card debt, which is actually more expensive than a payday loan fee.

And if they got paid daily then a payday loan would become a payhour loan and the dummies would still be using them.

That reminds me of first responders now resuscitating herion overdosers.  But don't they just OD again.  Is there recovery from herion?  If not, why in the world would anyone want to resuscitate such an addict.

@Sofia Credit card debt deserves its own horrible thread. There are people I love who just don't understand the financial Mels hole of arrears they're hurling themselves into. Horrible thing is that someone can gift them the funds to clear all debt and start all over with a clean slate, but a year later...……….. well, you know :-\

There isn't much point in having much credit if you actually can pay the bill off each month or even several times per year.  People who can do that just need a little credit for emergencies.

For those who let the balance & interest add up, it is sad.  You can do interest-free transfers for a while, do bankruptcy, but other than that, pretty soon a lot of dollars go out the door every month just for interest.  I've never had a 24% interest rate & I have no idea how fast that racks up.  Seems like interest should be capped a lot lower than that.  Just my opinion.

...  A company of 100 people who make $160/day potentially earns about $16,000 in interest on the employee wages each pay cycle.  If they split that among the employees whose money it actually is, each employee would come home with about $160 more per month...

Let's take one person from your example making the $160 per day, at 5% interest.

$160 x 5% = $8.00.  That's for a year.  Divided by 365 days, it's 2.2 cents a day.

So for each 14 day pay cycle the interest would be something like $2.31:

The 1st day is paid 14 days late, so 30.8c (14 days x 2.2c)
the 2nd day is paid 13 days late, so 28.6c (13 x 2.2c)
And so on down to 1 day late, 2.2c

There are 26 14 day pay periods in a year, so the lost interest is $60.06 for a year (26 x $2.31).  Then there'd be tax on the $60...

... And if the IRS would stop borrowing money all year interest free, then low income workers could bring home $20-50 more per month.  The IRS does not pay interest on the money workers lend it...

Easy fix:  increase your exemptions until the correct (lower) amount of tax is withheld.

If you are talking about waiting a year for an earned income credit (''refund''), that was never money the person worked for and earned and was withheld for a year - it's free money from the taxpayers, paid once a year.  There shouldn't be ''interest'' on top of that.
