Jeopardy! and James Holzhauer's Amazing Run
« on: April 17, 2019, 06:50:31 PM »
Anyone else following Jeopardy! and James Holzhauer's amazing run? Tonight he won his 10th game and now holds the top 4 all-time single day winnings totals for Jeopardy!. He is a professional gambler from Las Vegas and if he continues at this rate, he is going to give Ken Jennings a good run.

Tonight's winnings: $131,127
10 Day Total: $697,787

On tonight's show, he had $70+K going in to Final Jeopardy, got the final question right and bet $60K.

I am! I so love it when we get a champ with a long run! I hope he makes it all the way to unbeaten retired champ status if they still do that. Makes me sad when I think about Alex Trebek not being host one day.

Years ago they had a game limit and they retired players after they reached it. They don't have that rule anymore and you play until you lose. The record is Ken Jennings with 74 winning games.

Hoping Alex can beat the odds and win his current cancer battle.

Alex looks fine on TV at this point. I don't know how far in advance the shows are taped before they air though.

Right, could be weeks or even months.

He showed great courage to share this and to try and work on through.

I recall not too many years back when he blew his knee out chasing some thief down in a Hollyweird hotel - how many guys in their 70s would try that? :o

He's right up there with Brad and Ken. He set one record, and it wouldn't surprise me if he sets more of them. It's also timely that he appeared around the same time that Alex Trebek announced his cancer struggle. My parents lost their struggles, but I pray that Alex wins his!

I get so tired of Alex pronouncing French names or French words we've adopted the way they would be pronounced in France.

This isn't France, we don't pronounce those names and words that way in English, and English is supposedly the language the show is done in.  In other words, it's incorrect (it's also confusing - I might know the name of some French writers, scientists, etc, if he said their names in English, but with him sometimes I have no idea who he's referring to).

Hey Alex, we get it - you speak French.  So what.  Once in awhile it might be fun, but it doesn't help that the ''clue crew'' pander to it - giving him probably a dozen opportunities a week to show off.  I swear they manage to work ''genre'' in at least 3 times a week.

I never noticed this, or his smug know-it-all routine before when I didn't watch it much - only when I started recording it and can watch it later at night.
