I think the claims that he couldn't have survived the jump are likely propaganda on the part of the authorities. Saving face, trying to discourage others from doing it.

Was the jump at 30,000 feet? (Not googling it!)

Eh, nevermind...

So this character reenacted Cooper's jump yesterday.  It was an exact recreation, except he jumped from a different plane, at lower airspeed and altitude, over a different locale, with a different chute and harness, in daylight vice night, in better weather, and wearing sneakers as opposed to dress shoes.  It's also well documented Cooper spilled one of the chutes while in the a/c and was seen by the stew cutting lines with which he is believed to have tied a container of money to himself before the jump. Assuming he tied the container to himself securely, he wouldn't have to have held onto it for very long after exiting the a/c.  Once clear of the a/c, the released contained would have been analogous to the drop line container used by paratroopers to carry their weapons and other gear as shown in the video below.  Ground impact of the container is used by paratroopers as a visual/audio cue to prepare to hit the ground and prepare for their PLF.

Would kind of suck to have that sack of boxes of sand to come hurtling down out of the sky on top of you. WTH?

Clyde did his take on D.B. last night.  Of course, he had to spin his own conspiracy angle. ;)

@FISH heading over to a town about 25 miles from my woods to eat a Turkey lunch at the VFW. I’ll ask if anyone knew DB Cooper.

If any of them were SOG in South East Asia back in the 60s, there's a chance they knew one of the long time suspects, Robert Rackstraw.

Seems like that would be a handy thing to have when landing in pitch darkness.
