The clinched fist protesters of 1968 and the cheating basketball referees of 1972 pretty much did it for me.  The hockey team in 1980 revived interest, but it’s been downhill since.  I don’t think I’ve watched an event in 20-years.

The Japanese Olympic administrators have forbidden political statements/gestures during the medal ceremonies.  Though how they can enforce it, I don't know.

I like all of the Olympics myself.  Like an idiot, I finally cancelled my cable tv subscription several weeks ago.  Still, I got me one of those tv antennae things that you put by a window and luckily, one of the channels it gets is covering all of the Olympic events.  Not sure what I will have to do to catch the next World Cup event.

Ha, thanks Shay.  I meant that I did it shortly before the Olympics began.  I would have had considerable more coverage had I kept the cable.

Every year I go into the Olympics with no hype and then just watch for a few hours and then get hooked. Yup I am watching random stuff like archery and synchronized diving along with other sports with athletes I never looked out for the other 47 months but will watch it now lol

Olympics is a great example of how not to overstay your welcome. 2 weeks every 2 years (winter/summer)

I got to watch the Men's Individual Triathlon race earlier today.  Four laps and each lap over a mile in distance.  Most of the runners were rail thin but about half way through the race a big burly guy worked his way to the front and damned if he didn't take the lead and damned if he didn't win the race.  In fact, he was quite a ways ahead of the pack at the finish line.  He grabbed the finish line banner and wrapped it around himself in joy.  No one was more surprised at being the winner than he was.  It was great.

The winter Olympics are scheduled for February 2022 in Beijing. CHINAAAA!

The only thing I watch is ice skating.

Every year I plan to watch the cycling road race - mainly for the backdrop, this year Japan, last time from Beijing to the Great Wall - but somehow always miss it.

Otherwise no interest whatsoever.  Well, other than hoping the woke US basketball team falls flat on their faces.

Spoiler Alert - (Though it happened many hours ago.)  Simone Biles.  Nerves got the better of her and she withdrew herself from the women's gymnastics team competition.  Team USA would have to settle for silver medals rather than gold.  It's big news for anyone that follows women's gymnastics at the Olympics.  Of course this was a team event.  The individual gymnastics competition will take place this Wednesday.  It is not known if Simone will compete in them or not.
