Spoiler Alert - (Though it happened many hours ago.) Simone Biles. Nerves got the better of her and she withdrew herself from the women's gymnastics team competition. Team USA would have to settle for silver medals rather than gold. It's big news for anyone that follows women's gymnastics at the Olympics. Of course this was a team event. The individual gymnastics competition will take place this Wednesday. It is not known if Simone will compete in them or not.
Talked to sister about this, okay what I gathered the USA were considered a HUGE favorite going in, there was a lot of talk that the US has so much depth they can put three teams and sweep the medals. But there's qualifying rounds to the final (with top 8 teams in finals) and everyone was shocked how good the Russian (not sure I am officially allowed to say that umm ROC) gymnastic team were and during those qualifying rounds were getting higher points than USA which shocked everyone, especially people who hyped this team as can't miss.
Biles was fine, was the best one in the American team, but if the team didn't have another level, it looked like if everything was even (ie no Russian chick totally crashes out) Russia would win the Gold. I think it looks bad, it looks like the captain and star played had a hissy fit because she won't be finishing first and decided to skip out instead of fighting to the end. But as time goes on I do understand the other side, and if she was having a mental break down and she's in a team sport maybe and her mess up will bring everyone down, it maybe was best for the team for her to step aside and let the alternative go in and they still won a Silver
