It pains me dearly to remove Sundown from my list.

Year Of The Cat it is. Each verse is a timeless story.
I have lived the 3rd verse.

Speaking of Chase (also known as "The Chase") did you know how you could tell if Art was going to be in the studio or not, by listening to the start of Chase?  Surely, someone out there in Radioland knows, but if not I'll fill you in with an answer tomorrow.

Back in the day I used to work nights at a door/flooring production plant.  If my production line was up and running, and I didn't need to make any adjustments or anything, I could sit back and listen to a radio.  That's where I got into listening to Art.  When the intro song The Chase started playing, I listened with anticipation to hear Art say "From the high desert."  After awhile, I noticed that he always said it 30 seconds into the song, right when some pronounced drumbeats started to play.  If Art was in his studio, he would start talking just as the first loud drumbeat played.  If he didn't say anything at that time, I knew that Art wasn't there and that there would be a substitute guest announcer like George.  George and all the other fill in hosts would always start talking well after those first steady drumbeats sounded.  Anyway, if you listen to some of Art's shows that have the opening intro music, you will hear what I mean.  There were a number of times when Art didn't show up, especially when he was having trouble with his back.  If Art wasn't there I usually switched the radio to a music station, or would play an old  tape of Art that I had recorded earlier.

Very nice, Rikki. Yes, Art almost always started when the snare drum kicked in. For so many years I thought that I was the only listener who noticed that ::) It's a great place to begin talking the show in.  I am going to have to give a listen (when I get home today) to a show from 93, see if he does the same back then or if it just happened one night later on in the years.

@sean92008 Are you going with Year Of The Cat as your #1? That would be two of us.

YotC and NBaH both stir my soul and bring those nights with Art Bell to heart and mind. Can there be a tie?

If there must be a tiebreaker, I have to go with NBaH because I didn't know that song until I heard it as bumper music.

I already loved Al Stewart. It was quite the honor to have consulted with Peter White, his guitarist, ultimately earning his trust and getting referrals from him. He played locally not too long ago and I was this far away from trying to get passes. Of course, with that comes to risk of being told he's forgotten about you. It's been 25 years...
Eh, nevermind...
